Peugeot suntour vintage?

I'm looking for information on this bike. And a possible valuation from you smart people .... I have no idea of the series, general idea of year, or valuation in current condition. The seat has sun damage and cracked and there is rust from having been left outside. I can not seem upload a photo from an iPhone onto this thread grrrr. One of the pedals says tourist. What can I provide?

Bikes: Bianchi San Mateo and a few others

There really isn't a good substitute for pictures. If you're having problems posting pics here, you can post them to a photo site like Flickr and give us links. If pictures are impossible, though, here are a few things that could be helpful:

  • Where are you? Peugeot sold different models in different countries. Valuation for used bikes varies a lot by location as well -- not just country to country, but even from one locale to another.
  • What do the decals on the bike say? Along with the Peugeot name, is there a model name or number? Is there a tubing decal that might identify what kind of the steel the bike is made of -- Reynolds, Vitus, Carbolite 103? Are there other distinctive decals like diagonal stripes or checkers?
  • Some Peugeots have a white paper decal near the crankset with black print. If your bike has one, it may indicate the model and size.
  • What's the serial number? It may not be possible to get much info from the serial number on an earlier Peugeot, but at some point (1980s?), they supposedly started using a format that's easier to decode.
  • Assuming components are original, what brand/model are they? You mentioned SunTour... Derailleurs? Shifters? What about the saddle or crankset? Brake levers or calipers? Handlebar or stem? Is there a model name or number on any of them? (Some manufacturers marked components with date codes. If we know what you've got, we might be able to tell you where to look and what to look for.)
  • How many "speeds" is the bike? (How many cogs are on the freewheel? How many chainrings on the crankset?)
  • Are the shifters on the frame's downtube? On the handlebar stem? Elsewhere?
  • Is there any chrome on the bike's frame or fork? If the fork is chromed, is it the whole fork or just the lower half?
  • Are the bike's rims steel or aluminum? How about the cranks? (You can check with a magnet.)
  • What size are the tires? If it's a road bike, are they 27" or 700c?

With some of the above, plus other details you may be able to add, we might be able to help you figure out what you have. I mentioned value is dependent on location, but it's also hugely dependent on condition. We may be able to give you a price range, but there's no way to give you a halfway accurate guess without pics.

Bikes: 1959 Capo Modell Campagnolo; 1960 Capo Sieger (2); 1962 Carlton Franco Suisse; 1970 Peugeot UO-8; 1982 Bianchi Campione d'Italia; 1988 Schwinn Project KOM-10;

Seat post diameter and seat tube diameter (28.0mm for French-made, 28.6 for made in Asia or North America) would help us gauge (so to speak) the quality of the frame's main triangle.

For start and about the only thing could say is "welcome".

1- Peugeot made millions of bikes.
2- Suntour made millions of bike components.
3- There is a specific forum for valuation and appraisal of vintage bikes.
4- iPhone as another smartphone misnomer

Work on numbers 3 and 4.

So....if its a U.S. model bike its relatively easy. Peugeot only ever made 1 model...no catalog scans on this computer but it was an '82 or an '83 model, low end. Canadian models were more frequently spec'd with Suntour.
