Help Identifying a Lemond bike

I picked this bike up off of Craigslist for $60. Has a campy crank and a mix of Shimano Dura Ace and random brands for the rest of the components.

I'm trying to figure out which specific model it is but am not having much luck. It does not have any indications as to what type of steel it uses. It has a signature on the side that says Paul and what looks like either Standly or Standlu. Neither of which turns up any results on Google.

I'm still pretty new to vintage bikes so I figured I would turn to the veterans on this forum to see if I could get some help.

Thanks!

Better photos are needed. Whatever camera you're using you need more light and/or a learn how to not shake the camera when you take the photo. There's really no way to make out any details in those shots because they're way too blurry. It would also be best to post to flickr, photobucket etc and link to the forum so that you can use a higher resolution photo.

With all due respect, there is nothing wrong with either the steadiness of the OP's hand or sufficiency of lighting. I have increased the size of each photo 500%, and there is no blurriness or shading of any note.

The decals on the machine suggest it might be a Trek Lemond. The name may be "Paul Handler" and is where Greg Lemond's signature would normally appear, leading me to think it may be a repaint, and that might be a PO's name.

More photos of the components, rear brake bridge, underside of the bottom bracket and so on, and of a higher resolution will certainly aid identification.

Well, the lugged frame and head badge decal are not Trek era. Is his name pantographed on the rear brake bridge along with handbuilt? Is there a Ten Speed Drive Imports decal on the downtube?

The more I look at it the more I'm starting to think that it's just random components on a random frame with lemond stickers smacked on. There are no markings on the frame anywhere besides the numbers on the bottom bracket which read M6f001173.

Bikes: Too many to list here check my signature.

Can you see any stamping on the dropouts or forkends? What is the diameter of the seat post? Can you see any markings on the bottom bracket cups? Does that crankset actually say CampI? It seems really worn so I can't tell with my tablet.

The serial number format suggests a 57.5 cm 1980 Trek 412 or 414, made in June.

Are you Michigan? Kent county maybe? There is a single race result for a Paul standler at the Fisk Knob time trial in 2012. Men master 45-49

I don't see anything remotely close to being an early LeMond frame. Certainly not of the very exclusive R. DellaSanta made nor the early run made by Billato (Italy).

Regardless, the price was right. :-)
Ps. Curious if we could see pics of the dropout and fork ends.

Yeah, I see nothing in the pics that look right either.

For reference check out these 3 gallerys of pics from my Lemonds. The Ventoux and Maillot Jaune are the early Billato built frames and the Tourmelet is a Trek era Reynolds 853 frame.

I looked at the both the fork ends and the dropouts and I can't find any stamping. I've attached a photo of the fork end, both the fork ends and the dropouts have the same kind of marks on them. The bottom bracket cup says rc1 37 and I think BB. The crank does say campi and it is stamped on the other side.

This seems like a good possibility. I measured the frame to be about 57.5 centimeters.

I do live in Michigan. Kalamazoo to be exact, which is just south of Kent county. The plot thickens. Although, I think it would be rather strange for an amateur cyclist, with a single race to his name, to get his signature turned into a sticker to put on a bicycle. Stranger things have happened though.

Yeah, I'm definitely glad I only paid $60. Even if the frame is garbage the components are pretty decent.

It's a shame, I was really hoping I got an awesome deal on a genuine Lemond. Although that does not appear to be the case it was still a good learning experience and I'll be better prepared next time a Lemond pops up in my area or online that's in my price range. Thanks for all the excellent advice everyone!

Well the thing to do now is give it a good overhaul and cleaning then ride it and see how it handles and if you like how it feels.
