Everything looks good except for the brake cables misrouted in front of the bars. See post 17 for correct length and routing.

You really did a great job polishing those levers up. Hoods look great.

I went with Cane Creek recently and am still waiting for them to arrive.

I just ordered new cables and housing, but honestly didn't even realize the routing was "off". Man, I'm really glad you pointed that out. I went back and checked some images I had saved from the US catalogs. It looks like they routed the front brake on the left side of the stem, but Steve and I both have front brakes with right hand side pull (mine are Weinmann 605s). Did the bikes in the catalog have a left side pull brakes? And the catalogs show the rear brake cable routed to the right of the stem. I'm assuming that was to balance the front brake cable being on the other side. I like the look of this routing and will try to get it right.

I have the Peugeot "labeled" Simplex derailleurs front and back (which reminds me, I need to re-glue the "Peugeot" label on the RD since it's just starting to separate), but strangely have Shimano 600 brake levers. I'm assuming whoever put those on is responsible for the non-original routing. A couple more folks with mismatched sets and we could have a full Shimano 600 groupset.

I picked this up off of eBay. Not the original but an upgrade to the Super LJ. I have a Peugeot decal on the way to replace the one that is on here. I decided after playing with stems that I will just keep the original one. Almost done.

Progress. Still want to change out the tires. I was going to order a Peugeot decal for the front derailleur to make it match the rear but ended up liking the orange to much so I ordered a matching decal to replace the rear. Waiting for that. I still may change the brake cables to orange as well but I really do like the look of the black.

Looks great! You forgot the big orange spoke reflectors, though.

Same shifters you picture and the 700 hubs and all. Yes, you've got the brake levers right - Mafac course, seat column was an SR Laprade - annoyed me that it was the only Asian piece on a European bike, so I replaced it with a Campy. Don't recall the diameter but I could check for you - it's French spec 531, not the typical 27.2 diameter. and I'd part with the post if you're interested. Saddle is an Ideale (2000?) Black leather. Your brakes and headset and stem are correct as well. Good luck with the project and PM me if you need any more specs.

Finished. I changed out the 700x28 Gatorskins to Continental GP 4000 II 700x23 and the difference is very noticeable. Tires really do matter. I changed the decal on the RD to match the Super LJ FD. I like the orange. I have decals to change them to Peugeot if I ever decide to. Not only do I love the looks, this bike really rides great. I am very happy.

Nice job - enjoy. Great riding bike, under appreciated/valued, probably because it's a PXN instead of a PX. Or it doesn't have Nervex lugs - I don't know. Bought mine for $400. on CL a year ago - I think it was ridden maybe 50 miles. I always enjoy its ride and think it's pretty sharp.

Thanks. The French crowd is not as big as the Italian crowd and the French crowd seems to value the more exotic French bikes more it seems. Peugeot just seems to be associated with mass produced lower priced bikes, kind of like Schwinn. I guess that brings the value down. They ride as good as anything I have ever had.

True - they are the French Chevy. But Chevy makes Corvettes. Albeit without completely non-standard threadings and dimensions on just about everything ...

It looks great and I agree that Peugeots are a pleasure to ride and own. I also switched from 28c Gators to 25c Mavic Yksium Elite Guards on one of my bikes and the difference is profound. Gators are great for the daily commute on these rough roads but they do not afford much in the way of enjoyment.

From: Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada - burrrrr!

Bikes: 1958 Rabeneick 120D, 1968 Legnano Gran Premio, 196? Torpado Professional, 2000 Marinoni Piuma

They ride as good as anything I have ever had.
I have found this to be the case with other French bicycles, also. That said, just yesterday I took my PX10E out for its/my first ride. And it rides as good as anything I ever had - almost..!

That came out beautiful Randy. I have one of those too. The 10 year separation is significant as they are like two different bikes. The 80`s geometry is much different. Both great in different ways. My 72 is pure joy with the tubular tires. It is more relaxed with a bit more spring to it.
