Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

Like I said, I've got a bunch of stuff from the 70's: Crane, Vx, V-GT, Cyclone, Arabesque, Rally, even Simplex 610 long cage. Gotta be older.

Since I'm definitely planning a 1x drive train and the frame I'm thinking of didn't come with an RD hanger, maybe I should just fabricate an extra long claw hanger from scrap to get the clearance and just stick with a short cage. Be interesting to see how that performs.

Anyone here done that before?

It is a classic way of trying to handle larger cogs. It leads to very inexact shifting on the smaller cogs though as the upper jockey wheel is far from the cog and there is a lot of chain flex. It can make it impossible to get into the smaller cog.

The Cyclo Standard was a favorite touring derailleur for four decades and has more vintage cred than anything mentioned so far.

For sure, Cyclo. That's about as eroica as you can get with a touring derailleur.

I don't think many of these were ever sold in the US, as they more or less predate the bike boom. The only ones I saw in my LBS career were the handful that came on 'constructeur' french touring bikes that people had custom made to suit and shipped over from France.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to say, "desmodromic!"

Oh, man, that is me, through and through! Can't wait to try this.

An thx @rhm and @Salamandrine for the Cyclo tip. I have heard of those before; should have thought about that one myself. Will go to the big auction site and price some.

I've seen photos of Jack Taylor bikes made as late as the early 70's with the Cyclo derailleur hanger on the chain stay, which kinda boggles my mind. Looking for photos now, I don't find what I'm looking for, but I find cool stuff nonetheless. Check out this Malvern Star!
