Mercier Mixte Restoration

[url=https://flic.kr/p/S2eY1i]

I'm not starting on this just yet, but thought I'd start the thread anyway.

Plans are as follows:
-Brooks saddle on the way, to be replaced with something French later.
-Replace crankset, just 'cause. I'd rather have cotterless.
-Good tires
-Eventually build alloy wheels with the high flange hubs.

That's in addition to the usual repacking of bearings, new chain, etc. Plus buffing and touching up paint.

Bikes: A few

That looks like a very nice condition to start a project from. Look forward to the progress!

Ooooh Nice! Did you make a thread?

It'll probably be a few weeks before I get started on this guy.

I started one when I received the bike (Santa lives in Thunder Bay). But I'm taking my time with this build, as I am searching for a result that will look good (classic French, with a nod to the constructeurs of old) but will also be really enjoyed by mrs non-fixie. That's something of a balancing act.

Guessing Hi-Ten. The label calls it "Luxtub". The bike is a reasonable weight, but not super light.

Bikes: 1959 Capo Modell Campagnolo; 1960 Capo Sieger (2); 1962 Carlton Franco Suisse; 1970 Peugeot UO-8; 1982 Bianchi Campione d'Italia; 1988 Schwinn Project KOM-10;

French mixtes are cool, and it fun to have something less common than a Peugeot UO-18. They were marketed as unisex bikes in most of Europe, and they are certainly superior to the standard step-through design.

If you do choose alloy cranks, a nice set of TAs, Stronglights, or Nervar Stars would be appropos.

Sorry if these photos are huge. Here is the Imgur link just in case: Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

Not sure what these hubs are, but they're spinning quite smoothly. I would like to put alloy wheels on it though.

The rear derailleur jockey wheels are busted

I've been wanting to build up an IGH bike, and I have a wheel with an 8-speed Shimano Alfine hub. But of course the rear spacing is too narrow for this wheel. But internal gear is still in my mind since I want to replace the wheels and cranks anyway, plus the busted derailleur.

Hmmmm. Any leads on parts for me?
