Updated Fuji ?

Hey guys.
I picked this up as part of a package deal. Not my size so I would have never looked twice at it, but when I did, I figured the barcons were worth the price alone. Interesting geometry - lots of bottom bracket clearance. Really liked the look of the crank too. Anyway it turns out to have an interesting mix of components and I think someone had already tinkered with it. I looked at the catalogs and since the top tube just says Valite tubing, I struck out.
I'm guessing its a touring model of some sort. No name on the downtube. Worse comes to worse I steal the components to upgrade something else. Just don't know if the frame is worth consideration of anything. Way too small for me
Can anyone identify it for me ?
Serial # - FK 201713
Shimano 600 calipers and levers
Mavic MA40 rims
Suntour barcons
Takagi ? Tourney 3 x 6
Nitto stem
V-GT Luxe derailleur

Bikes: Too many to list here check my signature.

I want to say it is a mid '80s Touring series 3? I am pretty sure there should be a derailleur hanger on that right dropout. Valite is one of Fuji's tubing names.

1713th frame made in 1982. Likely a del REY. What does the frame sticker say?

Per T-Mar's hard work:

SERIAL NUMBERS 1980-1987*:

Serial number format WXYZZZZZ where;

W = a letter, presumibly indicating a Fuji facility or contractor. To date, samples have included F, I , J, K & S.
X = a letter, indicating the calendar month of manufacturer (A = January, B = February, C = March, etc)
Y = a number, indicating the last digit of the calendar year of manufacture (0 = 1980, 1 = 1981, 2 = 1982, etc.)
ZZZZZ = a five digit number sequence, probably indicating frame number during month

Example: FB125349 indicates the 25,349th frame manufactured during February 1981.

Added a pic of the derailleur. Serial # indicates 82 but seems like all the models had the name on the top tube yet this one does not.

My guess would be a modified 1983 Fuji Del Ray. https://classicfuji.com/1983_15_DelRey_Page.htm

The frame has:
A) a chrome legged fork
B) claw hanger for RD
C) Ebony paint with no head tube color variation like an S12-S
D) no canti mounts (not a touring series model)
E) the right decals (minus the Del Ray name on the DT of course)

The frame looks like the Del Rey - but it doesn't really explain the barcons etc, unless someone updated a middle of the road frame. It certainly doesn't feel like 26 lbs either. The top tube sticker says Fuji Valite Tubing

Seems like a consensus. When I was looking at the catalogs I disregarded anything without barcons. If that's the case I won't feel bad if I strip it down and save the parts for another build.
You guys and your knowledge never cease to amaze me

Don't try to component match. They changed it to a triple and while they were at it they added the bar-cons. A nice light touring setup.

Appreciate the help. Someone stuck some money into it in the day

Bikes: A few...

I did much the same modifications to my '75 S-10S over the past 40+ years that I've owned it (bought new)! Triple crank, barcons, rear rack, etc...

It even wears fenders now!

Bikes: Road, mountain and track bikes and tandems.

My opinion is that the Fuji frame is from mid '70's because the derailleur cables go over the bottom bracket, into the '80's everyone started putting them underneath. Also a Suntour vgt derailleur was from the 70's as the Takagai cranks. Some parts have obviously been upgraded over time, like the aero levers.

Be careful with generalizations like that. Both of my '84 Miyata-built Univegas have cable guides on top of the bottom bracket - and so does my '86 Miyata 710!

Bikes: One of everything and three of everything French

I have a 1980 model year Fuji Gran Tourer, a very similar bike to the OP especially the frame. The RD cable guide sits atop the BB shell.
