Stopped by a New place in Portland today. Daughters boyfriend is interested in finding something to commute to work with and sent him a photo of this Univega. Next to it is a Raleigh International.

Now that I finished the Clunker challenge, I'm doing upgrades on the Gitane Mixte, since it is bound for a grand daughter. I visited NW Hub in Salem, OR to find a better saddle and some pedals with reflectors. Found an Avocet Touring and while I was rooting around the pile looking, felt a very light one, so got it for my Peugeot PK10. It's a Vetta SL, just 8 oz = a bit under 227 grams. Next, searched thru sad & rusty pedals til I spotted a shiny set and I was done.
As I was polishing the pedals later, I saw lettering, "WECO 491 Made in Germany". They spin free, but I'll overhaul them anyway. Pic after polishing just one so you can see a before and after. Don |

Don Pedals are most likely 9/16". Grand daughter's gaulique mixte likely takes 14mm. But then, you are sure to be on top of this already! ;) ----- |

The local co-op moved and I went to the new location. A step down from the previous place and I hope they survive. There's a dumpster out back with detritus from the move. I may have to go diving.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8f1d3aefad.jpg How it looked at the old place. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...70c58be73c.jpg If you should decide to take this in (on? :D ) locating those bolt-on seat stays might be a challenge. There are several regular posters at thecabe who seem to be mad about these and have vast fleets. You might try posting a WTB notice over there. If they don't have what you require they could likely give some solid pointers... ----- |

These frames are currently at the local co-op/bike thrift store. Some nice stuff, and fortunately most are too big for me.

Listed on CL, had this one delivered from Newark DE coop from a holiday traveler. Looks to be mostly original with the usual switch to Suntour RD and Barcons. Curious about those brake levers as they were not supposed to be original but this is not the first '73 Grand Sports I have seen with the turkey levers. Hoping for a nice clean up.
Good find! :) One oddity - it appears to exhibit forged fork ends paired with stamped dropouts. The reverse is not all that rare... Probably wise to keep gugie at a distance  ----- |

What the heck. I'm going to have to take some pics at the SF bike kitchen. Y'all are so dang lucky. I have been eyeing a 70s ish or older Bertin mixte that might be exciting to someone other than me.
Anyone else frequent the SF bike kitchen? |

I'm amazed at what gets given away--I see the 70's bike boom come back to life in this thread as well as some great road bikes from the 80's. I'm going to be strong and not ask if that Trek 950 series is available!!

Donated yesterday at the local co-op where I volunteer.

Saw these today. Cannondale Day at Rag & Bones Co-op. Neither one was my size so no real danger to me.
Black Lightning mountain bike. Don't think I've seen one of these before. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1602fe8e69.jpg H400 Hybrid. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2663c44887.jpg |
As far as I know, the nearest coop to me is Mechanical Gardens in Brooklyn. It's open only from 6pm-9pm on Mondays. This past Sunday, they led a ride called the Annual Sheldon Brown Memorial Ride. We went from Grand Army Plaza to Coney Island and back. I really liked meeting the people so I decided to volunteer at the coop on Monday night for my first time.
I had a blast. I feel like I've met more people from my tribe. Everyone has a highly customized, well thought out bike. Everyone is young except for me, and that's OK. After we closed up, we went to a local bar which is in a warehouse-like space. Very cool. We talked about bikes and urban planning and mechanical engineering and everything else. I'll be going back now, and I'll be bringing lots of donations. Here are some of the supply bins. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/9H...w2000-h1500-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/zw...w2000-h1500-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/0N...w2000-h1500-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/kN...w2000-h1500-no |
