Saw this bianchi at a swapmeet but couldnt identify the model

Its old enough to probably not have come thru Bianchi USA and so be an Asian Contract build, rather than Italian.

the Valentino level components would indicate a lower consumer model rather than the higher end Pro, Replicas.

Italian made Record/Rekord model from the early '70's. NERVAR Sport chainset, Campag Valentino gear ensemble, Universal brakes (levers have been changed). The Union 40U pedals were seen here are normally on the next model down, the Strada. Usually this model received a Sheffield set. Frame constructed with Agrati "AM" lugset including bulge-formed head. Rear wheel later than bike.

The subject bicycle would appear to be a 1972 Bianchi Rekord 71, manufactured in Italy. The tubeset is a lightweight hi-tensile steel. Basically, it was the entry level, racing model. To add to juvela's component notes, the calipers are Universal Model 51, the rear wheel is a relatively modern MAVIC replacement for the OEM tubulars and the seat post/saddle pairing is another relatively modern addition.

Greatly appreciated this info. I had a white one of these many years ago. I put clinchers on it and used it as a winter commuter. As I recall, it was a decent performing bike for the time. Lately, I've been curious about the model and components.

I had to walk away from it since the seller didnt know a single thing about it but wanted $600 for it. No way I'm paying that

Don't blame you for walking away at that price, however remember how few and far between these old script examples are and factor that in to the equation. I would have really hammered the guy and myself on this based on how often you don't see them.

Hi T-Mar, would this have been a 74mm bb and these with the older style headset seem to be pretty rare as many didn't survive this long. I realize this one is low end but still think it's a pretty good example seldom seen nowadays.

Shell is Agrati 70mm item nr. 000.8057. Lugset ensemble is Agrati "AM" nr. 000.8040/U (version with bulge-formed head).

Headset is conventional - not integral (if that is your question). Its fork crown race, adjustable race and locknut resemble those of the older integral sets.

I get that theyre not seen often but the few times they pop up for sale they're in far better condition than the one I posted.

Tx , that was sort of my question, pardon my ignorance as I am not very familiar with either one, but plan to get so having serviced and saved many "regular" conventional headsets. It seems to me that even 70mm bb's are somewhat of an anomaly to find in good shape nowadays, especially of the cottered variety.

Let me know if you find a big one plz. 60cm or bigger.

As regards headset -

Here is a closeup image of the head on a Bianchi Specialissima of 1960. You can see a resemblance...to some extent. Bianchi integral headsets were gone by the time our subject bicycle was manufactured.

I noticed a thread in the appraisal/value section that someine got a similar Bianchi Rekord for 225...very reasonable price with room for improvement. I'm glad I passed on this one.

Hey, does anybody know if the top tube cable clamps are original? or should they be Campy?
Just finishing same bike that came w/clamps shown here. The Campy. clamps may look better w/the frame pump clamp?

Do you know if France may have received or assembled their cotter’d Stronglights?
I believe the 170, 9/16_20c w/hollow sq. taper BB to be orig. on a 2L stamp’d 72 Rekord? 58cm Top & seat, 61 dwn.
Also TTT (capital) open quill has a notched/recessed stem bolt? Cannot find an example of one.
With plate drop outs & no integrals, I fig’d. fair game to mock up a custom paint (I like the brass around the lugs to be visible) @ some point I guess this 72 Rekord I just did should go back to a “Celeste Green” w/red decals, red or blue cloth tape.

Hi - Just set up with “Velobase” to find a set of those clamps.
I have a different crankset than shown in your post, they are not 3 piece. It sure looked like they were original to this 72 Just did.
