There's '82 or '85, never seen anything in between.
For me Montellos have always been SLX tubing with the reinforced BB shell and lack of chainstay bridge.
However, the '85 Treviso had a clamp on front derailleur - looks like yours has a braze on, so it's a bit of a hybrid combined with the chrome rear triangle.
You can see if there's any helical reinforcing inside the base of the seat tube, which would indicate SLX.
I thought Spumoni paint was saved for (professional) racing models, so make of that what you will.
The bottom bracket branding on yours looks different to most I've seen from that era.
The thing with Pinarello is that for every 'rule' there's an example that refutes it!
Here's another Treviso with chrome rear triangle - fork suggests an early model. No FD braze-on: https://www.vintagevelo.co.uk/shop/f...treviso-frame/

Pinarello montello authenticity
Hello there! New to the forum, ive spent far too many hours browsing forums without being able to pick what seems some very knowledgeable brains.
I've recently purchased what i believe to be an 80s Pinarello Montello (frame only) from ebay. It was the last piece of the puzzle on whats been a long, long project. After looking at it obsessively, ive got some concerns regarding it's authenticity.
Would it be ok to post a few pictures?
Many thanks in advance!

The frame I've purchased is blue, but it didn't have a photo listed of the bottom bracket. It was fully refurbished by a company called Bob jackson cycles, in Leeds, UK. Its very difficult to explain my concerns in writing, so soon as I'm able to post photo's i will.
Thanks for your reply!

Your frame is certainly a Pinarello from the mid-80s. It's the Alexi Grewal model (I'm not sure how else to describe it) - internal brake cable routing on the top tube, no brake bridge, but not the Montello bottom bracket shell. Whether Columbus SL or SLX, I'm not sure, not that it really matters much. Below is your BB, my 87 Pinarello's BB, and Grewal Pinarello. It's a pretty frame - enjoy riding it.

From the 85 catalog:
The catalog has a Montello 85 (that's how they identify it) but doesnt show the bottom bracket to see what that looks like. Call it a Montello 85, stop worrying about it, and get it out on the road, happily.

You can read this thread for more: 1985 Pinarello Montello SLX (??)
Pinarello seems to have done a lot of weird (ie not documented) stuff back in the 80's. Yours, for example, seems to have a different brake bridge from the Montello and Record that I own.
Reach into the seat tube through the bottom braket and feel around for vertical ridges (with a little twist as they go up) - that's a hallmark of SLX. You can also look for ridges in the fork steerer - that means less since they used that on both SL and SLX frames.

Totally agree about not worrying about it, and getting out on it! It seems the more you dive in to vintage bikes the more you want to know, it almost becomes an obsession.
Thanks for everyone's input on this, I can rest easier now, sad as it sounds.
I'm sure to have more questions in the very near future no doubt.
Thanks again
