Yeah, Wheels Mfg is kinda pricey on their cones and axles. Best I can tell, it's sometimes if not usually cheaper to buy a used hub and cannibalize it than buying Wheels Mfg axles.
Probably only worth going that route (buying and cannibalizing a hub) for cones if you can find a NOS hub at a good price having compatible cones, though.

I'll check out that vendor on the eBay link and look into a front axle that works with the cones I have.

-- and Wheels Mfg doesn't allow returns - I bought a set of cones over the winter not realizing my axle has a different thread pitch. I decided to just keep all the old stuff in place because I didn't want to spend $40 on an axle, when I had bought the Heliomatic hubset for $50 - nicely polished!

If you're looking for a Maillard axle, you may have better luck at Loose Screws or just searching on eBay. An axle salvaged from another brand of vintage French hub might also be a workable option (unless Maillard did something different with their axles re: thread pitch and/or diameter).

That particular vendor doesn't usually deal in Maillard parts. I did a quick search and they don't appear to have anything by Maillard in stock at present.

It made for a stronger axle, less thread depth and less stress concentration.
All such hubs featured nicer chrome-plated locknuts as I recall.

Shimano FH-7403 drive side cone. Trashed hub works as long as there is a good cone on the DS.

Pic and dimensions might help. Lots of interchangeability on Shimano stuff, something from 105 or Tricolor might work.

I will have to dig it out but I believe this one cone is unique to this hub, typical DA design.

All I want for Christmas is a pair or 2 of 1970s plastic/ nylon grips 4 1/2". Must be all SMOOTH. As shown in a bunch of my photos.
The ones I have are off a 1973 Raleigh and CCM.
I have among other things, a 1972 narrow track hub 32h 85 mm, medium high flange, no nuts. It was only used a few years on my dad's antique SS Rudge.

Couldn't say if it's compatible with any other Shimano DS rear cone of that era without doing quite a bit more looking. Wouldn't surprise me if it's specific to those three DA hubs, though.

If I could find an "Old Shimano Exploded Diagrams/Parts list" I could look for the number. Google is not my friend here.
When I discover this issue, I started looking without success either for the cone or a reasonable priced hub as a replacement parts donor. Consequently, I converted the bike from DA to Chorus. I was going to look for brifters for the 8v DA but the prices were too high at the time so I decided to do the conversion. Not sorry I did. This is the nail in the otherwise complete DA group set including the brakes. I would like to give it to my daughter but not with this cone.

If that link doesn't work (Google sometimes obfuscates the hell out of links in searches for some reason, so I couldn't post the link for a Shimano source PDF document), use an Internet search engine to search for "shimano FH-7403 exploded view" (no quotation marks). The first two in my Google search led to the same document, from different sources. Dunno what Bing or other search engines might dig up.
According to that document, the old Shimano part number was 354 9804. But that's from an exploded view document that appears to date from September 1990. I think Shimano may have changed their part numbering scheme since then.
Best of luck finding one.

Are you looking just for a QR axle or axle and cones? I've got a FH-6400 QR axle I bought to canibalise cones and washers for solid axle and tracknuts conversion (I don't use QRs) and it's 137mm.

What are the measurements of this cone? I'd have to do a bit of digging in my hub parts box, but I might still have some Shimano rear hub cones, not sure if I used them all up. If I have any, they would be from 6400. The dust seal rings a bell, definitely have something that looks similar.
Don't have a clue about the outside diameter of the cone and/or dust seal.

Shimano Tech Docs, 7403 results
This doesn't get you any closer to a replacement cone. I strongly suspect that the OEM part has been out of production for over 2 decades. With careful measurement you might find a suitable replacement from wheels manufacturing. Unfortunately (again) Wheels Mfg doesn't list a direct replacement for FH-7403 drive side cones.

Shimano has made a great deal of their user and dealer documentation available across the breadth of their history for FREE, without having to resort to those sometimes shady third-party manual repositories.

Per Shimano documentation (see links in my comments above for exploded diagrams for the 7402 and 7403), the DS cone (right) for the 7402/7403/7463 is 10x14mm. The NDS (left) cone is 10x16mm. Shimano part numbers (1988 thru at least 1990) were 354 9805 and 354 9806, respectively.
Don't have a clue about the outside diameter of the cone and/or dust seal.

@VintageSteelEU - It is reassembled. My thoughts were to mark where the defect is and orient the cone away from the road when mounting on the bike. PITA, I know. It actually feels pretty smooth.
I will attempt to take measurements with it assembled. The flats are 15mm.
Disassembly is done on the NDS because the free hub is in the way of the DS cone and lock nut. I did think about taking measurements but.....
Starting from the cone the next 3 diameters are:
16.8
12.78
16.92
I thought the last one was a washer but I think the measurement is in the 17.48 or so.

Correct (double-checked against Shimano EVs) for the 7403 DS and NDS cones in my comment above should have been 354 9804 and 354 9805. Was off by one in the part numbers in my earlier comment.
