But after 35 years some of it is hard to find. Smiles, MH
Here are a couple of pics of the FD I dug out of the bin. Ends up it's a Superbe Pro (label is somewhat worn off derailleur cage). Let me know if you want it, MH.

Here are pics of the Dura-Ace stem we have. Definitely used, and also missing the dust cap, but fully functional and should clean up nicely.

Let me know what you have, and what you're looking for.
This one's near mint, the Cinelli 65-40's are very good but can be split off. I think 110 but will check tomorrow. Interested in SR stem, more? Pics of stem?

Reynolds 753 fork (56cm)

Looking for a Reynolds 753 fork to fit a 56cm frame. Something appropriate for an 80's Trek is what I'm hoping to find. Some pics:

Looking for rear cones for first gen Shimano Dura-Ace hubs. Width is 15.2mm. Buy or trade. I checked the Wheels Mfg site. Doesn't look like they have anything suitable. Came up empty on eBay as well. Here's what I've got:

^^^ Based on an offline comment, I should point out that I didn't orient the cones to show the galling, just the shape. The drive side cone is in bad shape.

Anybody want to do a direct swap for Campy brake holder/pads? I have two drive sides and need a non-drive side. Straight trade.

Here's what I have:

Thanks in advance!

Last time I was digging through a bin of brake parts at the co-op, there was a Campy shoe assembly that looked like it had never been used. Didn’t notice if it was left or right.

I’d be happy to check if it’s still there when they open again next Wednesday. If nothing turns up for you in a trade here by then, send me a PM by midweek as a reminder, and I’ll take a look.

If it is still there, turns out to be a lefty, and you’re still looking, I’d be happy to send it out to ya!

Thanks! I learned of this tactic a while back when someone out there in BF land did the same thing. Makes sense - I can't be the only person who's experiencing this misfortune, right?

Hopefully not for long!

It'd be a thing of beauty should you find someone with the same misfortune!

Could you, would you, please post high resolution photos of the galling on the cone? For ears I've been wondering whether the early Dura-Ace were "through" or "case" hardened. I have a number of bikes with DA hubs, but none have developed galling or pitting, and I'm loathe to destructively test a perfectly good cone. If they are "through" hardened, one could reface the cone as is and has been done to the "through" hardened Record cones.

Thank you!

(p.s. If you are tossing that galled cone, perhaps you could send it this way for some, ahem, "science"?)

Machinist42, I'm pretty sure they are through hardened, mostly by the experience with the hub cones over the years. But with any luck I will have the opportunity to test with a re-grinding of them in a few days. If indeed they are through hardened, I will remove a few thousandth of an inch and have them back to the owner in a few hours and back on the road for another few thousand miles. I am continually amazed at the durability and repair-ability of the older parts. today's throw away mentality has made guys like me and the parts I work on mostly dinosaurs. Smiles, MH

Yes I would have been your man not too long ago but hazetguy was in the same boat and we made a swap. Hang in there!

No less an authority than James Merz confirmed early DA cones are through hardened, and that's good enough for me. I asked him over at Classic Rendezvous:

"These cones are through hardened. It is certainly possible to resurface the race, but I can think of 2 problems. First, these cones seem to be available for about $20 each as someone pointed to a link with them. I cannot see how one could resurface one cone or that price. 2nd, the geometry of the ball race would be changed. This contact patch defines a line through the ball contact on each race and the angle defined by this line allows the bearing to address the loads it sees. Not a good idea to randomly mess with this angle. If the market for these was large enough they could be reproduced. I highly doubt there is much demand."

You may be interested in the engineering discussion which ensued pursuant to my query?

Others have enjoyed success in resurfacing or regrinding Campagnolo Record cones.

I am interested in the outcome of your efforts.
