Francophile, No, I am not opposed to a swap for the FD. I have a clamp on 105 here, that is slightly too small on the band inner diameter (27.0 and the tube measures 28.6) that I don't think I'll be able to use. I used a 105 brake set because at the time they had superior stopping power over the other Shimano brakes. It looks like it will be a mix of drive train parts, tri-color hubs and rd, Sante 7s shifters, and whatever fd I can find. I am just trying to stay reasonably period correct with the parts. But after 35 years some of it is hard to find. Smiles, MH

If the bars have a 25.8 clamp area I'm interested. If a wide angle shot of them can provided its much appreciated

Reynolds 753 fork (56cm)
Looking for a Reynolds 753 fork to fit a 56cm frame. Something appropriate for an 80's Trek is what I'm hoping to find. Some pics:

^^^ Based on an offline comment, I should point out that I didn't orient the cones to show the galling, just the shape. The drive side cone is in bad shape.

Last time I was digging through a bin of brake parts at the co-op, there was a Campy shoe assembly that looked like it had never been used. Didn’t notice if it was left or right.
I’d be happy to check if it’s still there when they open again next Wednesday. If nothing turns up for you in a trade here by then, send me a PM by midweek as a reminder, and I’ll take a look.
If it is still there, turns out to be a lefty, and you’re still looking, I’d be happy to send it out to ya!

It'd be a thing of beauty should you find someone with the same misfortune!

Thank you!
(p.s. If you are tossing that galled cone, perhaps you could send it this way for some, ahem, "science"?)

Machinist42, I'm pretty sure they are through hardened, mostly by the experience with the hub cones over the years. But with any luck I will have the opportunity to test with a re-grinding of them in a few days. If indeed they are through hardened, I will remove a few thousandth of an inch and have them back to the owner in a few hours and back on the road for another few thousand miles. I am continually amazed at the durability and repair-ability of the older parts. today's throw away mentality has made guys like me and the parts I work on mostly dinosaurs. Smiles, MH

"These cones are through hardened. It is certainly possible to resurface the race, but I can think of 2 problems. First, these cones seem to be available for about $20 each as someone pointed to a link with them. I cannot see how one could resurface one cone or that price. 2nd, the geometry of the ball race would be changed. This contact patch defines a line through the ball contact on each race and the angle defined by this line allows the bearing to address the loads it sees. Not a good idea to randomly mess with this angle. If the market for these was large enough they could be reproduced. I highly doubt there is much demand."
You may be interested in the engineering discussion which ensued pursuant to my query?
Others have enjoyed success in resurfacing or regrinding Campagnolo Record cones.
I am interested in the outcome of your efforts.
Ah, but you did, over at Classic-Rendezvous, and thank you!
