Shimano Bottom Bracket Length

I don't know much about Shimano specs, having used Campy primarily. I bought a nice Battaglin with triple Dura Ace components and I am wanting to convert to a double. Have bought most of what I need and I bought a UN55 70 X 115 square taper Italian BB. It's been awhile but I think I got the length spec off the late great Sheldon Brown's website.

This length would be a triple length for a Campy so I am having some second thoughts about whether it is wrong for a Shimano double also. Can someone please straighten me out on this, the preferred length for a Shimano double Italian bottom bracket? I am using a 6400 era crank, downtube shifters and rear derailleur, 8 speed. Thank you for any assistance.

Depending on how widely spaced your chainstays are on the BB shell and if they are dimpled for chainring clearance, somewhere between a 112 and a 116, regardless of whether it's Italian or BSA threading.
