Identifying Litespeed year and model
I just picked up a Litespeed road frame. The seller said it was a 2004 Tuscany, but I do not believe that's correct.
Firstly, the tubing is round, not shaped. The 2004 catalog indicates it would have been shaped.
Secondly, it has a matte finish, not brushed or painted. I'm not seeing that as an option in 2004.
The litespeed decals were removed at some point, but the handcrafted in the USA sticker on the seat tube is still there, as is the head badge. The badge is a large black L with three black 'club' shapes, and a tri colored flag peaking out around the sides. It's attached with two small allen bolts.
On the bottom bracket shell, one side is stamped 96870, and the 57 under that. I think the 57 is the size, as the seller advertised it as such (and it looks correct.) I think the other number is the serial number, but I can't seem to find much on how to interpret the number.
The other side of the bracket has what looks like the letter G, then some space, and the letters FN. I have zero idea what those mean.
What I was able to find seems to indicate that serial numbers starting with a 9 are probably from 2005. I couldn't find a corroborating source though. I'm thinking its maybe a 2005 classic? Or some other model?
Halp?!

You're on the right track concerning it not likely being a Tuscany. The "L" head badge indicates it was produced in 2002 or after. Litespeed customer support used to confirm model and production year for free during at least the last 7 years, but now I see they require a $15 donation to World Bicycle Relief for this service. I own 7 Litespeed bikes and have bought. refurbished, and sold 10 others since 2011. Production year did not always match the decals in their catalog. For example, my first Litespeed, a Tuscany I ordered in March 2000 and took possession of in July 2000 came with the decals shown in the 2001 catalog. I have an Owl Hollow with original (but well worn decals) whose production year (confirmed by Litespeed) also does not match the decals for that year as shown in the catalog. My other bikes have matched the catalog year. During one of my conversations with customer service, I was also told that Litespeed would occasionally produce a frame with a finish not specified in the catalog by request. Because the catalog does not tell the whole story, it's best to contact Litespeed Support and pony up the $15 now if you want to know the truth about your frame.

Thanks. I reached out by email, they confirmed it is in fact a Tuscany, 2005 model, custom finish. Possibly my finest steal of a bike ever. Got the frame, an Easton EA90 full carbon fork, FSA KForce carbon post, BB and headset for a whopping $260. /happydance
