Bikes: Raleigh Record ?

What did I buy? :-)

So I bought this frame, pretty sure it is a Raleigh, fork says so. Black paint matches.
Also what the thing on the rear?

Bikes: Lots

The thing on the rear is to hold the chain when you pull out the rear wheel.

Can’t help you with the I.D. though. More and sharper pics will help.

the little boss on the drive side seat stay ? that little boss is a chain holder when you take the wheel off. holds the chain (poorly, I think) off the chain stay so you can work on the bike.
some bikes got 'em, some don't.

Bikes: roadsters, club bikes, fixed and classic

Sorry but isn't that just a cable stop for rear derailleur housing? The chain holders usually come on higher models.

Looks like Record to me. Something like this?

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

I don't see a chain holder boss there; but the angle is wrong for that anyway. I see a little "diving helmet" cable stop at the usual location. The combination of the screw-on cable guide under the BB + stamped dropouts + the brazed on cable guides (forcibly removed) makes me guess it's a lower end bike of mid-80's or later. Like the Record Clubman posted above.

It's a generic that got relabeled a bunch of times for different importers. Appeared in the UK as "probike chicane" among other names. That the american fake raleigh also used it doesn't surprise me.

Bikes: One of everything and three of everything French

The mid 80s Record I once owned had "Raliegh" stamped fork ends like this bike. It also had a chain hanger (can't tell on this one). And it had hideous, oversized stay leaf caps that also were stamped "Raleigh." This bike has different stay treatment. Does look like a similar and heavy hi-ten frame tho.

They are. You can find a range of new threaded Tange headsets at amazon and ebay. Inexpensive, too.

- i think the Original Post was modified. The image of the seat stay is no longer present.
You are correct - the chainstay has a cable stop.
I've got some middling / lower end frames with the chain hanger boss on the seat stay - late '80s Rockhopper; early '80s TREK 420; some kind of Raleigh road frame from only the Good LORD knows when...
