My theory is those eyelets on the dropouts were designed to support the freakishly long extended Xenomorph helmets designed by HR Giger for the Alien Triathlon.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3ee92fce9b.jpg Just because you're wearing a tinfoil aero helmet, that doesn't mean the Xenomorphs aren't out to get you. |
Thank you for posting the pix CO Hoya
I know my frame is the same I was just stating that one is not mine, I only have the farme set. It is also the same as the one from Greece. The serial number on the frame is Y8C4652 |

I wouldn't mind having that fork, but I'll make do with the Zunow (thanks, @billytwosheds!) |
If what's left of my memory serves, there was a discussion on the big Centurion thread, a few years ago, about someone selling these Turbo frames+forks. It was someone over in England who had a small quantity of them and was selling them directly, I think. I don't know where that Greek vendor got his frames, but I can't help but think there's a box of forks floating around somewhere out there.

Very nice Robbie.
Since the majority seem to think there never was a "real" factory one. And nothing online......Is it feasible someone ( WSI or an individual) had a lot made by another manufacturer or frame builder then just painted and put decals on them? If they were fakes it would seem the serial numbers would be much farther apart. Possibly made for a team that never happened? You guys have mentioned someone in the past with some frames. The guy that owns the one at the beginning of the post said he bought his from a guy that had 10 of them. It would make the most sense to me seeing as its been done before. Murray used Serotta frames for the 7-11 team (lots of stories on that on Google). I'm sure others have done the same as it would be the most cost effective way to start a team. |
Here's a real Centurion Le Mans. Wonderful color on this bike. I mean ................... how many shades of pink are there? https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d45f532656.jpg

I think someone wanted to make and sell the frames.
My take is that WSI was aware of them: 1-The font uses the connected ENTURI in Centurion. Trademarked? 2-The Turbo logo. Trademarked? 3-The 1987 "Miami Vice" magenta or fuscia or whatever color appears the same. 4-The paint quality. 5-The lugs are similar to the 1987 Ironman Expert 6-The circumstance. This was a production run, of sorts, not a one-off fake. There are differences, of course, from the standard Centurion fare of the time span. The original Turbo, for instance, is from an era prior to the so-80's later Ironman and other models. The frame tubing, the fork, the Shimano SFR rear dropouts (that include an eyelet). The frame is well made, well finished, and perhaps there actually were 30 or more make, given the number. I'm not sure. I don't think they are fake anything. I think they are what they are, cool funny bike frames made similar to the late 80's Centurions, with decals that hark back to the earlier 80's Centurions, and with dropouts available at the time. I can't see how WSI or Centurion or the people involved at Centurion would not have known about them. Maybe Alan Goldsmith would know, as he was certainly involved with Centurion in that time frame. I'm not asking him. Well made, well done. I hope mine can be well built. There is many a smart and beautiful dog in this world, for which the owners cannot supply pedigree papers signed by some society of elitists, in many cases to the detriment of the breed. Ignorance is bliss and I'm happy with the frame and what may come of it. |
Quite possibly, IMO, the best looking Lemans produced. Set up right, one heck of an all-around bike.

You could swipe a 650 fork from one of these. Also the color seems to match. After all Centurion did make a 650 bike...kinda think how this bike was morphed from. |
Not getting the point on the tools, and that is a nice 650 bike, which would then be a nice 650 bike minus a fork.....
...don't know if the white is the right color, but moot point, as there would be a headset cup to break up the line of sight. Pretty sure the Zunow fork will work just fine. Can't wait to see @cdaniels' build. Gotta get the frame to a paint store to get a matching color for the body shop to paint it with. |
By the way, did everyone catch the complete and orderly bike shop that the OP has?
What a nice place to work on bikes. |
Knowing markwesti he meant cut those fender eyelets OFF.
Personally I'd leave them on and turn it into a single speed TT Funny bike with a rear fender. So that way all the cyclist would say "what the hell? Then I'd point to the Centurion decal. Then they'd say oh another "Centurion fan boy nut job", maybe it's Robbie tunes, nah he's going too slow. |
I'm tellin' ya, the key to those dropout eyelets is hidden somewhere in the fevered imaginations of HR Giger or Escher.

The amigos lost their shi* and gave me a Veloforums type flaming , I found it humorous and took no offence but you did and proceeded to rip them new ones , I took that to hart . Anyhow , still to this day I say the only good cheerios are floating in my bowl of milk with sugar . OK , I will say that I'm warming up to pink unicorns .
I can change . I had a Cinelli Super Corsa with eyelets. Drove me up the wall. I've surely mellowed since, relative to the "Turbo" funny bike. |

The Super Corsa with eyelets was most likely for brevets, back in the days before cell phones, when you were truly unsupported. You had to carry stuff, or it might rain, and a wet butt for 150 miles is not fun. That's how it was explained to me.
I took the frame to a builder, since it already had no paint. He said "those are OEM, and you'd better leave them alone." I might add, the eyelets were on the tubing, not the dropouts. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f0ed983cb8.jpg |

You may be curious because there is a guy in Greece selling these frames (not the fork). From the pictures, it appears to use the 83/84 Turbo decals, and the font style from the early 80's. Tange decals indicate Japanese construction, and the lower frame decal just says "Japan" instead of "Designed in.....made in Japan," The components are Sante, but it's interesting that the wheels are Mavic. Interesting shifter/brake lever setup.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3d49b41ef1.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3f33ba01d0.jpg I have talked to on facebook the owner of this one that Robbie posted. and he bought the frame from a guy in Italy 7 years ago or so. and that was the only source of the frames at that time. he had done some extensive searching on information for this, but there was nothing out there. he refers to it as a 1989 Model. He got it as a Frame and fork, picked the Sante for asthetics , it was a ground up build, he has never seen one of these that was a factory build , they have all been Frame/Fork build ups |

Yes fleslider , made for smaller riders, I presume without having to go two different size wheels.

UPDATE
I am outfitting it with Shimano 600 Tricolor parts. So far I am only missing the headset and brake levers, but they are on the way. I ended up using a set of Campagnolo Record hubs with DT Swiss rims that I already had. The stem is 3TTT with Nitto bullhorn bars and an Avocet fluted seat post. |
