^^^^ Yup, yucky pictures, yummy bike! Last summer/fall was all either road construction or flooding (sometimes both!), so my old 'Hopper was my commuter of choice. It hopped, and it rocked!

$35 or $40 would be better, but $50-$75 seems to be the going rate in my neck of the woods. You did fine! Don

The 80-90's Specialized steel frame mountain bikes are just fantastic frames to build from. I see a great touring/commuter rig there. Huge potential in that bike. Nice score.

Original tires? My 'Hopper had Specialized tires that looked just like that.
Prices for such are all over, over here. I've seen them as little as $25, or even free, and as much as $200. Personally I'd hold out for $35-40 as mentioned, but that much bike, that clean, for $50 is nothing to sneeze at.

Bigger than 17" with that straight top tube. I reckon 19". Not my favorite shifters / brake levers for that era, but that Exage driveline is nice enough.

It is the opposite for me, I normally see 17"-19" 90's mountain bikes. Finding my size (22") takes patience. It took about 2 years to find the 3 I have, and 1 is a 21".

Those Rockhoppers were tough and rugged. Amazing how many I come across for little to nothing, same goes for certain years Stumpjumper.
I don't know what Taiwan factories made the various type through the years for Specialized but interesting I found this one last year for free on the road side, though labeled another brand. Even had the same look / style Rockhopper font.
A friend needing a bike now has it. I forget what brand but we stripped the original pink decals. Cleaned and serviced, installed better rubber (lightly used). Swapped out the cheap 1st gen non working Rapid fire STI trigger shifters to a matched and simplistic index thumb units. Added the BF sticker ;")
Terrific all around utility bike.

The one I posted was only dirty, crap shifters, dried pads and checkered tires. Cleaned up excellent.
(There was an upright 3 speed, some kind of 10 speed cheapo and this atb. Riding along and noticed the free. Stashed this one in a nearby cornfield to pick up approx. an hour later. The others were gone by then.)
Not really into chasing them but oddly they seemed to be frequent cheap finds. My current and the last of cheapo Stumpjumper was $40. Mostly a mess, though. I rebuilt it with a hodge podge of used parts, Midge bars, STI dual controls, mud guards. All in, still under $100. Super fun do whatever bikes.
