Panasonic Team 1200 Custom-Maintenance & Changes
First a bit of maintenance. The bottom bracket shell was left in water at some time and so first order was to clean, de-rust, primer and then paint the bottom bracket (internals already taken care of). Before:

Then came spots of rust/chips/scrapes in the black paint, particularly on the left seat stay and now they are all black again:Finally the lovely purple paint, which was in really fine condition, except for rub due to frame pump under the top tube and on seat tube where the rubber nubbin ends of a likely Silca pump with pronged Campagnolo head wore through and metal ends scraped paint off the seat tube. Finding a paint match proved, not close enough as you see on repaint, though thankfully out of sight out of mind.
Plan will be to take the frame to a local auto paint store which matched paint on another vintage frame and see if they can make me a color matched pint to do final touch ups.

Next was addressing the young man’s racer set up of a 53T big chain ring and rear 12T to 21T cassette. I do plan to ride this bike in the summer so I swapped the 53T for a 47T and kept the 39T small chain ring.

Then replaced the 12T/21T rear cassette with a 12T/28T and now we have an old man’s racer set up. My knees are in agreement.
12-21T

12-28TSpeaking of drive train I added a set of Compass (Rene Hearse now?) Cayuse 26mm tires and from the gaps it looks like I could try to fit 28mm someday?

Finally, getting the fitment right meant a longer stem that would also be able to take the handlebars up for a more upright riding position (lower back also in agreement). Plus after reading about the Modolo stem issues this seemed a prudent change too. But, finding a black stem to do both?!The universe however provided this lovely NOS Specialized 120mm with lift mountain bike stem that was both black and beautiful (I wonder if Nitto was the manufacturer for Specialized as it has that lovely finish found on their products?) Added Cateye cloth bar tape and NOS Shimano 600 end plugs and we are done for now.

Thanks for your encouragement and support. And yes this will go into summer rotation once released to ride from spinal surgery in three weeks, it will be one of my MWF bikes: Stevenson Custom, Centurion Dave Scott Ironman Expert and the Panasonic Team 1200 Custom, wave if we meet on the trail.
