This Mystery Bianchi has got me scratching my head

Finally found a Celeste Bianchi that I didn’t have to pay a arm and leg for. In fact the person who I bought from purchase it from a estate sale. He told me there was additional parts that he pick up at that estate sale that he would give to me at no extra cost. My eyes lite up as soon as he pull out the box of parts that had Campagnolo super record, modolo brake pads and lever, a few tools, suntour winner 6 speed cassette, Celeste color frame pump. This guy left it outside his barn over the winter where it seen all kind moisture. The headtube does have surface rust and other parts of the bike has a little bit of surface rust. This bike is going to need a lot of loving.

The question I have now is what model is this?

The Bianchi logo style is 1990s but the framel looks late 1980s. The Gipiemme dropouts indicate an Italian manufactured frame, while the presence of dual bottle bosses and a pump peg indicate no earlier than 1986. The absence of chrome and a front derailleur hanger suggest a mid-range model with a Formula tubeset. The component most likely to be OEM is the headset, which appears to be an OMAS. Looking at that, in conjunction with the Modol Equipe brakeset and included Campagnolo Super Record derailleurs, the best candidate would be a 1986 Bianchi Trofeo with a Formula 1 tubeset. The crankset, pedals and rims, at minimum, would not be OEM. The serial number should confirm the manufacture date.

Nice score Dan ! Looks like the RD and FD got stored inside . If it were my project I would use those and the DT shifters plus those black Modolos brake levers .

The serial number confirms that it's a 1986 model and based on the components, it is almost certainly started out it's life as a Trofeo.

thank you for your assistance T-mar, I love reading your reply. Your highly knowledgeable about fact and specs of all these bikes.
would you say this Bianchi is a keeper? the repaint is not bad, but it could have been better if they primer it first. So I might repaint in the future.

If this was my bicycle, there would be a repaint in the immediate future.

Better check the stem and seatpost to see if they are stuck, cause it looks like the bike's been left out in the rain for a long long time....

so far I check the stem and it came loose. I repack the headset the other night. I disassemble about 75% of the bike. Can’t get the dust cap off the left side crankarm, got to love these steel cap. Next removing the seat post to lube it up. Remove the surface rust and the whole frame has no structural issues.
