It looks like an early 90s Stumpjumper S-Works. It's not rare, but it is a nice mountain bike.

If you do get it, remove that rack post-haste. Notice how they used P clamps because there are no rack mounts. This was a race bike through and through.

My advice - leave the rack on if it makes it more useful to you - mtbs like this can make ideal urban commuters.

Ohh nice! looks like a 1993 S-Works Steel. they are a nice frame and for some MTB collectors they are a grail bike. rumored to be Tange Prestige Ultimate tubing. these frames are light. I have a funky setup 19" frame one , although its a little to small its a great frame

fwiw , they are not Stumpjumpers or any other model. S-Works was a separate line of bikes and they were all aluminum except this one. I would say they are rare , but since most dont care about MTB they are not overly expensive

Probably won't hurt to try although some get mad if you try to "low ball" them, $25 off would not be that, if you want $25 off you might want to ask for more and settle at @ $25

Fingers crossed, I did facilitate a meetup between a co-worker looking for a bike and a Fb seller looking to offload a vintage Hardrock Sport. I even had them meet at a bike shop so it could be checked over. It would be hi-larious if we had three purple bikes at my workplace.

As it happens, my co-worker did buy the Hardrock. I'm feeling rather chuffed about it.

I have an acquaintance who is also looking for a new bike; she's tired of her 35 lb Magna, so I steered her toward a LBS and possibly a Sirrus, also purple. She certainly seemed to like it, and the wrench who helped her turned out to have grown up in the same place she did, so they had a grand time. Different experience from the other LBS; they showed her $1000 bikes. Which reminds me, I need to email her.

I know what you mean, still not a bad thing to look at the $1K stuff and listen to the spiel, form an opinion, glean and process info especially when they have you to help them at the end of the day. It can be fun to let the retail shop run on and then say "Tx but I'm really looking for something used in the $200 or less range that's a very good deal".

S-Works, they build the high end stuff. Its basically a Stumpjumper with nicer tubing. FWIW a 92 Stumpjumper Comp is about 26lbs, these were about 23lbs according to a review in a magazine I have from the era. Frame weight was lower, and it also had nicer parts.

That frame is a 21", which is for a very tall person. I hope you are a tall person.

Hmmnn. I'm a short legged 5'8 1/2" and I could/would rock that sucker just by dropping the seat post.

Very cool, like it or not, the Big S really knew what they were doing, so many of these will still be going when we are long gone.

Correction for those who care, the S-Works mountain bikes were also available back then in carbon. There were two models, Carbon S-Works and Ultimate. The Ultimate model had titanium lugs, the standard carbon had cromo lugs. I had the standard carbon with an FXS carbon fork added later on, my friend, who was our Specialzed rep, had the Ultimate with rigid cromo fork. He still has his and rides it once in a while.

Damn. She sold it out from under us.

not a waste of time as I learned something from the thread! cool bike. I have a couple older mtb and I love the rides but I have nothing in the S-works weight class and I'd love to get my hands on one. I think my 83 stumpjumper sport weighs 40 lbs. My lightweight is a mongoose around 30. a 23lb vintage mtb. wow!

Schwinn had a Prestige tubed mtb as well right? Paramount MTB had prestige and CF versions similar to specialized? I may be wrong but something to look out for.
