Gitane Track Standard project stage 1

Stripping of frame nearly complete, still working on the forks. Elbow grease and a good paint stripper. Messy but efficient.

Bikes: Too many, yet not enough

Looks great! What did you use to strip the finish? Chemical stripper and elbow grease?

Kwik-Strip paint and varnish remover....worked pretty good along with some 3M stripping pads.

Fun project. That looks like really neat brazing compared to my stripped bare PX-10 frame. Is there another thread documenting the procurement etc?

I am planning on starting the finishing process Monday. If anyone has any sage wisdom I am all ears.

Looks great. Regarding finish, cleaning of oils, skin and preservation is absolutely necessary, use alcohol or acetone and then do not touch until after primer. Using etching primer is also highly recommended.

Thanks, still considering what color to go with but leaning hard toward a dark blue.

Purple. All Gitanes must be purple because purple Gitanes are awesome.

See my thread here. Considering leaving it paint-less. Purple is cool though.
