Downgraded Eddy Merckx Frames
Why are new-old-stock Eddy Merckx steel frames downgraded ---- as frames to have any continuing value? [seems there are lesser Corsa Extra 711; not see them like in the past] As the actual name of the person/racer existed during the time of steel. Not at the time of carbon fiber. As I now found that there are carbon fiber frames of the Name. I assumed, the entire time, the Name would only exist during the time of metal; as tubing was of metal during the time of THE racer of Eddy Merckx.

I been hearing the frames, vi the name -- has lost value; or is this just for steel?

Not saying frames have or haven't lost value because I dont understand what you are asking, but it would be interesting to hear what people have told you they lost value.

I will say most of these being the younger generation -- within the timeline of carbon fiber been saying this. I don't know what they ride.

I'm bored and the b10 game is decided at this point, so I'll take a stab and figuring out what this thread is about.

I suspect the OP is noticing the general decline in the vintage bike market. This needs to be moved to C&V.

A lot of steel Merckx bikes are popular, at least the 2nd generation ones. The 1st generation (Falcon) Merckx bikes don't get a lot of love.
However, only a few brands really are holding their own in the vintage market.
Colnago.

Sometimes Bianchi
Older Paramounts
Others can be a bit hit and miss. Merckx will likely slowly fade into history, while companies like Colnago will continue to sponsor racing teams and innovate on the cutting edge.
Did Merckx do aluminum frames? Carbon forks?

It could be that the OP is in a foreign land with a different language. He/she is having trouble transferring the thoughts to English. Or the OP is watching the Star Wars movies in anticipation of the new one coming out and expressing the thoughts in Yodanese.

My point was that I believe what the manufacture is doing today has an impact on what the vintage bikes are worth from that brand.

Times change.The current market is for carbon-fibre. There is still a market for steel but it's a niche market. The only old frames with real value are old race frames with provenance or those built by master craftsmen. Eddy's commercial frames were manufactured by unknown builders. While they are good frames, it's just his name on the frame. There's nothing else to make them stand out from dozens of other brands. Most of his NOS steel frames that turn up are from the end of the steel era. They fall into a sort of limbo where they don't appeal to the current generation, yet aren't old or traditional enough for the C&V crowd. IMO, the market for these is extremely limited. If a shop wants some cash flow on their original investment, they have to discount them.

I found an authentic red/green/white Corsa Extra --- having the b.b. serial# digits stamped in their straightline, digital way. As the serial# being on the second line, all alone.
