What's wrong with the "porta tubulares?"

That is within the rules. But not a nylon (or whatever they are) toe strap.

I use a toe strap on one of my shoes that I wear for riding on the trainer. The velcro strap on the shoe tore off. The toe strap works just fine, perhaps better than the velcro.

Or worse, the hard plastic straps (usually black or grey). Those things are truly miserable.

A couple of years I wiped out on the road and scraped the front of my shin pretty badly. I used a large gauze pad I had to cover it and held the pad on my shin with two toe-straps.

I've also used toe-straps to make a longitudinal loop on my rear bicycle rack and then looped an Arno strap through the toe-straps to secure something.

I really like that. Need to add a strap to my tiny saddle bag for these near 50° winter rides that get a little toasty in a wool sweater.

I think you might have a few too many tools in that bag and it is tilting the saddle upward! Smiles, MH

They keep a 4-year old secured to the doorknob fairly well.

Can't you just take fish home in the car like everyone else?

I came up with a new use today. I needed to put on my Bar Mitts for the first time (highs in the low 20s here in Chicagoland today). I repurposed a couple busted straps to hold them in place. (I find that they are a bit too large for vintage bars. They probably don't need this hack on modern fat bars.)

That would get disconcerting after a couple of hours!

I have one that was acquired in the 70's. The problem with them is when the O ring wears out. It is hard to find the right one that has the right cross section and overall circumference. The other problem is the "softness" of the steel. It bends really easily, but does not work harden very fast. The third problem is the mounting. it is a real challenge to get it in the right place that will hold and not slide on the rails.

Reviving an old thread:

I just used an old leather toe strap to help me mount a clincher tire. I wrapped the strap around the tire and rim so that my mounting didn't slip past a point. I used a Kool Stop Tire Jack™ to lift the last of the tire bead into the well.

I recently bought a few Voilé (rubber? silicone?) straps for general purpose, and now I realize that nothing beats a toe strap. And the woven nylon straps are absolutely not as good as leather. Though Voilé straps come in various lengths.
