Lemond - Stronglight wall poster

Anyone know how to get this poster, or else a Very Large jpg file for printing?

Bikes: A bunch of old bikes and a few new ones

I wouldn't mind owning this poster. But then I'd want to track down a blue Gitane like the one Greg is riding with black modolo brakes, a stronglight 106 crank, super LJ derailleurs, etc. This would end up being the most expensive poster I've ever bought.

I may be heading down that frightening path... but even if I track everything down, including his outfit I don't think I'll get back to 1983.
Any guesses where the ride took place?

No idea but I'd likely buy that poster if you figure out how to get your hands on one. I just hope we ride different size bikes so we don't try to outbid each other!

There is some interesting info on the bike here:

Gitane USA - Greg LeMond

I like that it was a production bike:

"It is interesting to note that the Gitane used by LeMond was a production bike and not a specially built, custom machine. It is the ultimate in French: French made and outfitted almost exclusively with French components (only the Cinelli bars and Columbus tubing were made outside of France). Also interesting to note is the fact that he must have flatted at some point in the race, as the rear hub is Campagnolo…but with a Maillard skewer, while the front hub is French!"

The picture is taken after Greg's victory at the 1983 World Championships. This, in conjunction with the race number, indicates that it was taken on October 09 during the 1983 Paris-Tours event (aka Grand Prix d'Autumne or Blois-Chaville, which were the start and finish points that year). Hopefully, this info will help narrow the search for the photo that is the basis for the poster. FYI, Greg finished 4th.

Then how come he is perched on top in this photo? Was that not the same race? Or did you mean he finished 4th on that day's stage?

This is from the world championship victory, right? He's wearing the jersey in the poster.

It not the same race. The picture you posted is from the 1983 World Championships. You can tell because Van der Poel and Roche are wearing their national team jerseys, as opposed to their trade team jerseys. Lemond would have competed the 1983 World Championship in his stars and stripes, USA team jersey. He only rec'd the World Championship jersey after he won and was then entitled to wear the rainbow jersey in all (road) races until the 1984 World Championships. If you look at the poster in post #1 , you'll see the sponsor logos above the rainbow stripes on the chest, while they're not in your photo. This is further evidence of it being a different race, after the World Championship. BTW, both the World Championship and Paris-Tours are one day races.

OK, I think I understand now. The podium shot is the 1983 World Championships, but the photo of him on the bike is a subsequent race and in that race, he placed 4th.

I've got a high-end Spidel Gitane here on consignment (oh no, it's my size!).

Actually there's an extra frameset too, these have chromed forks but are top-tier models. This creates a serious crisis here, as both are my size!

Sounds like an opportunity not a crisis. Buy both.

cyclic_eric , Looks like you pulled that second pic from Andy Antipas 's post here: When you think of French bikes...

Maybe Andy can get it scanned or photographed in high resolution for you.

Interesting. The RD was still the SLJ5500. The next year, they had the better shifting SLJ6600 "Aerodynamique". Shifters are 2nd gen Simplex Retrofrictions, of course.....
The brakes are definitely, Modolos, obvious from the wire wheel guides on the pad holders and the dark colored adjusters.
The Mafac/Spidel LSX brakesets, used by other French teams, like Peugeot, were usually mistaken for Modolos, because of the similar shaped caliper arms. Crankset is a Stronglight 107. Pedals are Maillard/Spidel 700 quills. Can't see the seatpost that well, but most likely a single bolt Simplex SLJ. Saddle looks to be a Turbo. This was also right before everyone went to padded vinyl bar tape, as that looks like yellow Benotto celo tape on the bar.
