Somehow the camera never seems to capture the gradient, this is well over 20% probably closer to 25% and is a wicked descent with a couple of tight turns at the bottom, doubly exciting when you meet a tractor coming the other way!

The snow is beginning to retreat from the Iron Horse Trail east of North Bend. It's not a quick progression though. 20 miles east of this spot the snowpack is nearly 8 ft deep on the other side of the Hyak Tunnel.

I was watching the race last Sunday and while I got the connection to WW I and the strade bianche, I was wondering about the name.(BTW, I loved to see Marianne Vos win the ladies' version. Nice to see that even L'Eroica participants can win a real race every now and then.
