I am not surprised by the flange failure on your Hi-E hub. Hi-Es were notoriously under-engineered -- don't get me started on their aluminum-shaft minimalist front quasi-QR axles.

markk900, thanks for posting! Kind of funny how the reviewer is almost apologizing for the bike. Too many similarities to deny but I like to think the one I have is at least a notch or two above that one. Using my bathroom scale with and without the bike, it's 26lbs the way it's built up now but who's counting?
P.S. It looks like the assembler of the bike or the proofer for the photo didn't notice that the brake cable router is what I consider backwards because you don't see the flat plate face and the word Mafac.
