Miyata 710 rear alignment issue
I’ve been working on this 1982 Miyata 710. Just got a new to me set of cane creek wheels & some 33.3 soma supple vitesse tires. I put the rear wheel in the frame & it’s off center over the rear brake bridge. I’ve carefully centered it at the chain stays, but it doesn’t change the vertical misalignment. I put in another set of wheels that I know are dished correctly and the same issue appears. When I eyeball the rear wheel with the seatpost I can clearly see the top of the wheel is tilted to the right. Is this a drop out alignment issue, or an entire frame alignment issue? I took it for a ride anyway and man oh man is it sweet. Here’s some pictures to try and illustrate what I’m talking about.

Here’s a pic of the whole bike With the other set of wheels.

Check the frame alignment. It is easy to do and can be done with sting and a tape measure. I won't bother to explain how as there are a number of videos online detailing how to do this. As this is a steel bike straightening is very doable.
If the frame is straight then I would say you have an issue with the dropouts.

Wharf Rat , I had the exact same problem with my 1974 Raleigh frame. I discovered that the stays on one side were slightly longer than the other. I doubt this is the case with your Miyata because they are built better than the 1970's era Raleighs. Take a look at this thread to see how I handled the problem...

branko_76 , I checked out your thread, very cool. Also way beyond what I’m capable of. I did the string test and it was out of alignment slightly, maybe 2mm Different at the seat tube measurement. Im not going buy a set of dropout alignment tools for one frame, so I’ll cobble something together from the hardware store. RJ the bike guys got a video where he makes some.
