There may not have been a Major Taylor bicycle but there was a brand attached to an even earlier World Champion from the USA. A.A. Zimmerman won the sprint and 10km titles at the first World Championships, in1893, at Chicago. In 1895, the A.A, Zimmerman Mfg. Co. was established in Freehold, NJ and produced the 'Zimmy'. This might be the earliest case of a bicycle racer cashing in on his fame with an eponymous brand.
