Somebody here must own a Shimano 600 arabesque rear derailleur they can post.

Ugliest thing I have ever seen on a bicycle |
How about the brakes on my old AMF Hercules, as I got it.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4f3a8af9b0.jpg They actually did look better once I polished them up. |
Here's my pick. Campy Gran Turismo. Not only is it ugly, it also has a reputation for not working worth ****.

I think this thread is demonstrating the many dimensions of ugly. So far we've got the Sweetskinz leading handily in the "Tacky" category, the Schwinn saddle in "Homely", the finger saddle in "Creepy", the Durham elliptical tied with the Campy Bora crank in "That's just wrong", the Structure MTB in "Hideous", and I've still got the Kalloy adjustable edging out the bulbous STI-with-the-cable-stuck-in-the-side in "Diseases and Teratology." Going to be tough picking an overall.

If I owned a powerboat, this would have to be the throttle quadrant. But on a bike???

Speaking of ugly shift levers, has anybody seen an actual Camapagnolo Elefante shift lever? They seem to be non-existant. That could be explained by the fact that they're so grotesque that Campagnolo sold very few and any owners are embarrassed to admit that they bought one. Still, I'm hesistant to nominate something that only seems to exist in an illustration.

I've never understood these saddles. What purpose does the obscene part that tilts downward serve? Seems to me it just prevents "riding the rivet" in a sprint because you might slide onto your top tube, which can't be a good thing.

My entries...
And the piece de la resistance...The bent winkie shifter...these are available for purchase by the way. Not sure whether it was anatomically a joke, or aerodynamic in some way that far exceeds our current level of understanding... https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5f08502d8.jpeg I find them elegant. The plastic derailleurs that came with them, not so much. |

Mavic starfish crank. Here's a pic from the web (Edit: not allowed) So somebody that owns one needs to post it. :) https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...319265231.jpeg |

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...319265231.jpeg Every time I think I'm finally warming up to its looks, a thread or post like this one suddenly pops up in this forum, confirming I was always correct about its "questionable" aesthetics...... And this had been going on for many years now, since I started my C&V journey...... |

Mavic's 646LS SSC pedals,, Sometimes known as their "Lego" pedals because of the big chunk of bright yellow plastic on their bottoms and their very blocky proportions. They have a coolness factor because of the lateral cleat play adjustability offered,......... but dang!, I struggle to think if any bike will look good with these very clunky looking things installed on them...... I guess it's another notch on Mavic's ugly stick. Not my pic, but I presently do have an NOS pair of these in my C&V Mavic stash...... |

Starfish attachment points and the hood over them is what turns me off...that aesthetic doesn’t work for me...there were several cranks that used that.
The stem of swan is not attractive. On the other hand... Those LEGO Mavic pedals are awesome! and the red highlighted rear derailleur is beautiful... My vote is still for the phone stem. |

Funny thing about the "Starfish" crankset from Mavic,.....

And this had been going on for many years now, since I started my C&V journey...... There was no C&V when I put the Mavic starfish on this Gitane Team Pro, buying both the frame and the crank brand new (the Gitane frameset was a year or so old). I was going for a primarily French build and the starfish had only recently been introduced and just seemed so “right” for such a build. |

I was just getting ready to ‘unsuscribe’ bikeforums, because of all the negativity. But this thread is pulling me back in!
|
The black spoke has single-handedly turned bicycles from things of beauty to visually ugly.

It's a bit early for voting, but I have noticed that the frequency of posts is decreasing, so perhaps expressing an opinion would not be out of place.
For what it's worth, my opinion of my ugly stem is improving, thanks you you folks showing me how much uglier stuff is out there. I think that DorkDisk 's tires will have my vote, closely followed by randyjawa 's elliptical chainring. |
