Bikes: Some silver ones, a red one, a black and orange one, and a few titanium ones

Another batch. All are unlabeled and undated unless noted.

This one may have come from Sears. I’ve seen others in the case.

A couple of years ago, wife and I were in Paris. We ate in a restaurant that was in the old Gladiator factory, although we didn’t know it at the time.

Anacortes Brass, 2017

I'm digging that Dura Ace decal. I bet a Reynolds 531 decal would make a swell buckle.

Bikes: An ever changing list of keepers, long term visitors and short term visitors

Such a cool collection of buckles. If anyone wants to take the buckles to the next level, there is a small company that specializes in making belts from recycled tires and new bar tape.

www.cycled.com

Two of the nicest guys run the company and they actively support the vintage community. The photo below is of my Cinelli belt that they made. I know they do custom work - your tire or buckle.

That’s not a decal. It a brass casting.

Ah, the treachery of images!

Yes, I know, a brass casting of a decal is all I meant.

A vinyl decal probably makes for a poor belt buckle.

Pardon me if I've shown this before. Somehow I got ahold of two Campy belt buckles that both have the little nub boken off, the thing that goes in the leather holes. I know I broke one myself, then later bought or was given another, that someone else broke. Maybe casting flaws?

Anyway, maybe 20 years ago I mounted my Campy toolkit on drawer glides beneath a workbench, and decided the visible forward edge of the drawer glides was unsightly (I know, horrors, right?) How to hide them?

I don't have it as a buckle, but I have two of them (different eras) in lapel-pin form:

I have this (below) on a T-shirt, but I got tired of explaining to people that it's a pun on a 1929 painting, so now I just don't.

EDIT: I just realized, if the T-shirt maker wanted to reference the Magritte painting, they should have flipped the brace to look more like the pipe, like this:

Anyway, just a dumb T-shirt no matter how you flip it

The Gladiator buckle (the colorful one) is essentially a decal (or post card) that is affixed to a buckle blank with a plastic resin.

I’ve had a few buckles with broken prong. Tandy Leather (I know, right!?) sells a really awful buckle back and ring hook. It’s crap to use on a blank but I’ve been able to modify it so that it can be epoxied to the back. I use Hardman Double Bubble high peel epoxy. I get the small packs from Amazon so that I don’t lose a tube of epoxy for a single use. It works quite well.

Thanks, but I haven't worn one of those fat buckles since the '70s and I never will. Plus I like my two broken Campy buckles where they are, hiding the ugliness of the drawer slides. It's their best and highest purpose.

Today’s 10.

The only marking on the back is the Rolling Stone tongue. The DuraAce buckle has the same logo.

Dynabuckle Manufacturing, Provo Utah

Industry Nine 9 logo

Alpine Star. Better known for shoes and other stuff but they did make some cool bikes in the 90s

Coffee shop and bike shop in Minneapolis

No Fear. One of my kinetic belt buckles.

Lewis Buckles, Chicago. No date I was able to snag this for a pittance (relatively). These go for $150 to $200 on Fleabay. I got it for about $50

Dekerf bicycles. No date, no maker

Bike Mag. I delighted one of the co-op people who is a Black Flag fan.

Today’s 10.

This one says “Bell” but I’m not sure it is a Bell helmet belt buckle. The font is wrong. DynaBuckle, Provo, UT

Fox Racing, no date, no maker.

Another Fox Racing

QBP Saddle Drive event buckle.

Reynolds because some bike frames are made from their tubing.

An interesting buckle detailing mounting an ordinary tire from Firestone. DynaBuckle, Provo

The next 3 are for Rattlesnake Rally Gravel Grind around Casper, WY. The first one is a very nice play on Wyoming’s license plate logo.

Someone forgot something, but it is still a very cool buckle.

No maker, no date but it has to be pre 1994 when the name was changed.

Love the design

Crested Butte Cycling Club

The National Pony Express Association had a challenge to ride 1900 miles.

Got this one from my daughter because the museum she worked for had dozens of them that they needed to get rid of. I saw a little bit of the 1990 Nationals at Purgatory Ski area in 1990 during a 70 mile ride up Hermosa Creek trail.

Been there. Don’t think about what is in the water on the street during a rain storm.

Conference in Durango.

Race in Breckenridge, CO. I was not a participant. I have ridden much of their course however.

70s vibes

BTS brass, 1978
