I came to love that twitchiness for that bike, a pure race bike with no other aspirations. That bike found its way through many crashes. And I learned early on I could trust it completely. A month after I got it I did an unplanned jump off a frost heave I didn't see (misted glasses) until it was maybe 30 feet away and I was going well over 50. Backside of Smuggler's Notch.) A seatpost bending kick in the butt. Bike came down exactly straight. Round wheels. "A keeper!"

And edit, not related to this thread but kinda fun - my winnings that race? A Zeus seatpost to replace the bent one! Yes, a good bike, good heart,

Take a racing bike for a ride that is two sizes too small, it will feel twitchy.

One example is when your stem puts your bars farther forward then your front hub... Very Twitchy!

I hadn't ridden a bike for many years and when I started riding again I bought a Raleigh SBDU Team Pro. It was what I rode and what I became used to. It was all I knew.

But a couple years ago I bought another vintage bike that was much more relaxed. As soon as I rode that one I knew what twitchy meant. Because it wasn't.

Besides, straight forks are ugly.

My old Gitane Professionel was like that at low speeds -- a squirrel on uppers on its third cup of coffee. Settled down a bit by 18 mph, even more at 25. Smooth and stable at 35 mph, totally relaxed at 50+. Weird bike.

Usage examples:

"The fork is bent."
Translation: The fork is bent.

"Fork's bent."
We're trolling. The fork is fine.
