It looks like this thread has petered out. I am wondering if you have had any luck freeing up the shifter.
Back to the work grind (~55 hours/wk) and I had to prep/ship a frame so time has been reserved for sleep, eat, etc. I also have a couple of other projects to finish and move along before I get to this one.

Reviving another one of my own zombie threads….

The studs for the cantis on this frame have lead me down another rabbit hole with no answers. I plead ignorance on this system of mounting cantilevers since everything I see has female threads on the frame and the cantilever arms are secured with a bolt/screw, not a nut. The round portion of the studs on my frame measure ~1/4” OD and 3/4” long. Fractional measurements seem odd but perhaps point to British origin?

Any suggestions who made cantilevers that would fit? Also, any idea if the threaded portion is removable? One of those is snapped with a few mm of threads remaining.

Pic…

It’s a really cool bike.
Hope you get it all sorted out and get to ride it.

Y'all know what BSA stands for, right? The logo provides a clue.

My arms aren’t very short. Kinda average length.

Yeah, I think it’s kinda cool too. It will get sorted but a lot of stuff on the to-do lists beyond bikes.

Looking again, I'm curious about what those braze-ons are toward the bottom of the seat stays (last pic in post # 1). They almost look like they were attached to something else that has subseqently broken off. Built-in rack, fender, etc?

Those braze-ons would be similar to the tabs on my 51 clubman, to mound the Bluemels mudguard, but ground off. I don’t see a good shot of the fork. Does it have something similar?

I could see them as part of an integral rack system or maybe a cradle for a rack system?

The fork has slotted plates on the back side, perhaps 3-4” long. (At work so not able to snap pics).

Another thread revival.

It’s been raining and I have some downtime so I started staring at this frame again and I am becoming strongly convinced that this is a Tour of Britain Sports model. 531 frame and there were proprietary BSA direct mount center pull brakes to fit the studs front and rear. Lugs seem to match and these were available with a BSA 3-speed hub.

I’m willing to be proved wrong but these catalog pics make a strong case.

Do you have pictures of the BSA brakes or mounts? I was going to guess that the studs are for something like a Lewis brake but I don't think they used male threaded studs.

I only have what is on my bike (male studs) and I found something while spending WAY TOO MUCH time surfing the web looking for information that mentioned BSA proprietary center pulls.

I should create accounts on UK based sites and see if they can provide more info. Classic lightweights and Veteran Cycling Club (the real name escapes me) could help. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Maybe clubman has some insight?

Sounds like a good idea. Retrobike is also a popular C&V forum in the UK.
