My idea of mixing a Record spindle with Nuovo Record cups will not work. The difference in bearing race spacing is 5 mm, but I just tried it and adding the extra thickness of the rifled cups doesn't leave you enough space to fit the left crankarm, as it bottoms out against the cup.
If you have anyone around with a milling machine, it wouldn't be a big job to mill down the existing shell. You would need to first look at the depth of the machining for the bore that takes the cups to ensure that it extends a few mm beyond what is necessary for the adapter. That would be more difficult to extend. As you pointed out, the most expedient approach would be to use a threaded cartridge. It may be that you could find an ISO taper version for a 73mm bottom bracket shell and it should certainly cost a lot less and would not force you to make permanent changes that would keep the bike from being returned someday to its original configuration. I know you value the ability to return your Huffy to its former glory, just as it sat gleaming on the showroom floor, nestled between the lawnmowers and the leaf rakes, its chrome heart shining.

Link doesn't list the OD, but I'm guessing the OD of the shell would likely be around 3-4mm larger (1.5mm to 2mm thick, maybe?).

When I get home I will try to grind down the ‘extra margin’ (hey I might even lose a couple grams!) inside the shell and then install the adapter and dry mount the bb and cranks and we’ll see where we sit.
Although if one of cudak888 ’s recent posts in another thread of his gives any indication, we won’t be sitting anywhere pretty…
At that point y’all can give me your professional opinion. Or the peanut gallery can continue to heckle. Ideally, both - which shouldn’t be hard since neither seems to be mutually exclusive

This indicates that the shell ID for a standard Ashtabula is about 51.4mm. Width quoted at 68mm, same as Britsh/French/ISO.

Depending on the brand, the cutter might be oversized enough to work. I'll check what I have kicking around.

I can measure this as well.
I can tell you all this: if I was a bazillionaire I would just buy a huge cnc machine and fly you all out here and we’d knock it out, but that 73mm cartridge BB is sure sounding nice lol

Given the extent of the project and the quality of the build the only rational solution would be to chuck the frame up in a BIG lathe and turn the bottom bracket down. Actually, It might be easier to just mount the whole frame jig table in the lathe. Musn't muss up the quattro? times painted "H" either.
Good grief, think of the man hourswasted/spent in absolute bliss on this whole endeavor. We could have put another human on the moon. 31,000 views and 930 replies. x a (very conservative) 10 minutes each = ~320000 minutes =~ 5320 hours and counting.

Grinding, grinding, grinding!
I know it's going to irk some of you to no end, but I'm leaving about 3/32 to 1/8" on the ends, so that in the future if a repair is ever necessary, the braze has just a teeny tiny bit more to grab onto. Wider surface area, and all that.

Now that's the kind of math we all need and love!
So many hours wasted...ah, warms the heart!

This is pretty fantastic. How do you just have this stuff lying around? It's amazing honestly, and that is coming from someone that has a lot of stuff lying around!
But...you will need to embark on a spiritual journey.
Shall my (uber expensive) tools be wasted on a lawnmower (thank you sbarner for the reference) quality bike?
Might need to sit on a mountain top for a few before you find the answer to that one.

I should clarify that there are lawnmowers and there are lawnmowers. From the pic of the inside of the BB, the LeGrande is more along the lines of the lawnmower I bought at the lumber yard for $99. That Huffy ain't no Honda.

I have gone back and looked at what I measured, and realized that the adaptors are of a different design. My adaptor has a section that has been inset about 2mm on each side which results in a perfect fit for a regular spindle With the Omas, there is no inset which creates the need for the extra length of the BB spindle. Perhaps either of the adaptors here may be in order to get thing set aright. But what do I know??? Smiles, MH

I think the movie title "High Anxiety" might apply here. But Dr. Honk may have a bit of a solution for you...
Perhaps a different Bottom Bracket altogether, just which one to choose?
Or maybe just a spindle change? Like an English triple...
Or even an Italian triple... many choices and which one to use skinning this cat?
However, the only way to tell is by actually putting a couple of parts on the Huffy. Maybe we might even hit 1000 posts before any meaningful applications of parts and checking chain line and q factors with the crank arms. Do the arms actually exist? I'm wondering. Smiles, MH
