Ofmega Super Competizione?
Hello folks,
For the sake of variety, I am considering substituting Ofmega Super Competizione components in lieu of Campagnolo Nuovo Record or Super Record for an upcoming build that I want to reflect some of the highest quality racing components from around 1980. Everything I'm reading online points to the Super Competizione group as being very well respected at the time, and I just wanted to ask the community if that seems to be an accurate reflection of our general (or specific) knowledge of these components... I'm thinking about the whole shebang, including hubs, pedals, bottom bracket, headset, and crankset. Cheers!

Thanks, Juvela. The Super Competizione group isn't actually included in any of those. I'm referring to these components:

If the rest of the parts of similar quality to the crank on my Bianchi I'd say go for it. Mine has wear but is still quite beautiful and works extremely well.
Feels rock solid to me on the road.

I think it’s a great idea, lots of great riders rode lots of great bikes that didn’t have Campanutella dripping from them.

A Hetchin's is one of the very few that could have challenged my Strawberry, it like most others were ruled out by not being able to do in person along with a new Merz since Jim doesn't build anymore, DiNucci and maybe a Battaglin or Colnago.
In person was not negotiable, many other local builders would have been just as good, Bantam, Breadwinner, Ahearne, Vanilla, Igleheart and I tried to get to a MAP but no go after the fire.
The Strawberry $$$$$$ made most any of these possible.
I struggled with the group on it as I couldn't really justify all old school if it was to get ridden as it was going to.
Opted in the end to cobble a bit, oldschool everywhere I could and modern where I needed, already had NIB 11 speed Campy Athena so I added a new Super Record crank and got to it for a very "eclectic" if not mix that could be the goal here by bucking conventional thinking with the Ofmega.
I know this is not the goal here and I of all people understand the "vision" part of all this but I would encourage you to strongly consider full SR for this if not going modern which I know is probably nonnegotiable for you.
SR is the only thing that this deserves IMO, like it or not and could likely be less $$$ and easier to source in G/VG-NIB/NOS condition.
The Ofmega stuff is cool but I have seen very few with still good branding and it is suspect being printed on and not robust as well.
It can be very hard to source a whole complete group in the proper condition for this.
This will be a top notch grail so it should have the widely perceived same hanging on it if oldschool rules the day as it should.

I put an Avocet crank on my Mooney early '80s. Looked similar to the CX above only with a 74 BCD inner ring. I"ve heard many times that Ofmega built those cranksets. Well, early on, I broke the bolts to the inner ring starting a steep climb. (I'm all long, light , skinny slow twitch. I was not impressed! Took me completely by surprise and I fell to the low side.) '95 retired that crankset. Pulled it out of retirement to throw a Univega Competizone together. Second ride, the crank snapped at the pedal. (This time, no big deal. I'd just climbed out of the saddle. Foot went down, pedal attached. I sat down and rolled to a stop exactly at the top of the hill. Took the pedal off my shoe, stashed it and rolled downhill to a meeting with friends who gave me a lift home.)
I don't know if Ofmega used better QC when their name was on the product. Until I heard so, I'd steer clear of at least those cranksets if I was going to put big mileage on. I'm not a crank killer. Yes, I love to climb in huge gears and muscle climbs, but while those muscles are real, they are also a joke.

Sugino cranks were good, so were Suntour Cyclone rear derailleurs, Weinmann 500 brakes were good enough, but the guys on the top of the podium ran Campagnolo most often.
Racing is so much mental attitude, I started winning races after I was on Full Campagnolo.
The no excuse to lose.
