Cycles France Loire
I just purchased this off ebay. I actually had been on the hunt for a PSV-10N , and this came up when searching. I havent received it yet so cant check anything yet
Does anyone know anything about this brand or this frame in particular? I am aware the history posted on Wikipedia...
I'm guessing this frame late 70's or early 80's based on cable routing and the fact the company didn't exist until1975... Also a it's a good bet French BB, headset. Curious what threading on the vitus dropout and seat tube diameter .
Plan is hang Cyclone GT and as much Suntour stuff that works ( Suntour my favorite vintage manufacturer). Looks like center pull brakes were originally mounted. I will wait and see what reach is required, but imagine it is mid reach ( if you know , let me know!).
This is probably my biggest game bike wise... certainly the most off beat.
Thanks for enjoying my bike obsession!

Looks like a fun...
If it did not have the decals remaining I would have called it a late 70's PX-10.
Are you going to put a bike together or try a restoration?
Of either case how's your old parts bin?
What are you going to need?

I'm unfamiliar with the brand, but it looks like a very fine bicycle. Well done.
Post some pics when you have it built up.

CFL made some of the models sold under Jaques Anquetil brand. I see your seat stay tops are swaged so would not be surprised if it was main tubes 980 and stays not. I really like the appearance of this frame. Congrats on a great find!

The hanger thread should be standard 10mm x 1mm; adjuster thread should be standard 3mm x 0.5mm. The fixed cup appears to be a French-thread Stronglight cup, so the seat tube OD will be 28mm.

The standard hangar gives good choices for the rear derailleur, in my case Cyclone GT.

My parts bin is pretty deep, but no french stuff... so a new BB is order, and will probably keep headset and sand down a standard quill, and search for a seat post that fits...

forgot to mention above -
likely saddle pillar size is 26.6 mm - possible it may be 26.4mm
1978 is beginning of transition time from 5V being the standard to 6V being the standard so OEM rear spacing could be either 120mm or 126mm
me guess, and its only a guess, is that it would have been 120mm when cycle left factory; it could of course have been easily reset to 126mm subsequently...

I had best intentions of restoring an early 80's PX-10 frame but Wow was I humbled. The cost of period components remains high and I just could not get it together. Finally after years of delay I just slapped it together with mostly ChiCom parts. The end result was worth it. I am ridding...
Franken - Peugeot Dolomites 80s?
Let me know if you need some Knock Off decal images.

Superb frame. I'll bet the ride is spectacular. I've seen a couple of France-Loire's, but don't know a lot about them.

I plan to put it together to ride, with some regard to the Era. Will attempt to stay away from painted components, keep it friction shifting (bar ends?) , put a triple so I get up the hills in Santa Cruz.

for a 3X chainset all you would need to do is replace the present BB spindle with a Stronglight number 123 or 125 (or a T.A. 373 or 374)
it has been a while since me last visit to SC; if Rock Lobster and/or Sullivan's yet in operation you might be able to rummage in their bins for needed bits

Rock Lobster is winding down. The last time I had Paul reset the rear spacing on one of my bikes, he was working only 1/2 time. Boy did he have a wonderful collection of bikes hanging from his rafters! Not familiar with Sullivan's. I am so lucky to have a lot of great builders in area!

Sullivan's was a retail storefront bike shop which worked with used and collector bicycles.
Only visited there twice and this was in the eighties.
Visited Paul's once in the eighties and it was fun to see the interaction between the resident parrot and cat.
You had a wonderful collector there in town in the person of Seth Finkelstein who was a horologist - clock & watch repair. Found several pieces for his collection. Suspect he has been gone now some years.

Paul broke his femur a couple weeks ago and will be out of commission for at least a couple months.
The Bike Church on lower Pacific Avenue might be another good source for a triple crank or bottom bracket.

I also contributed to Seth's collection. Seth died a few years ago. Most of his collection went to Oregon. Paul was a friend of Seth, ended up with a couple boxes of components and a couple bikes.

Keep an eye on Paul and make sure he gets back to right again.
Tell him I'm rooting for him and I hope to not break anymore bones, we just can't take it anymore.

I have done a cursory inspection of the bikes Headset, BB, Brake Reach and Seat tube.
Headset
Felt notchy in the stand with no wheel, not notchy with wheel mounted. Thought it might be lower races, but dis-assembly showed no evidence of damage and loosening one 'tooth' smoothed things up. Perhaps just over tight. So i believe can use the current headset if I like. I have thought about having a local builder who advertises in CL about adding steering tube extensions to have him splice in a Standard 25.4 tube and take my crown race down to 26.4 from the current 27.00. Thus all this fuss over finding a workable headset in any future event would be much easier.
BB
The BB spindle was way too short and the ISO taper bottoms out on the JIS crankset. So off to Soma for an IRD french cup adapter for their cartridge JIS bottoms brackets that come in multiple lengths. I think for the Suntour XC Pro LTD triple (46-36-26) I believe needs 127mm (perhaps shorter due MTB's having a larger hub spacing effecting chainline....?)
Brake Reach
Measures out at 55mm on 700c rims , so mid reach is in order. Bike may have even been a 27" wheeled bike. At any rated I will go with dual pivots, so hanger on headset is not needed.
Seat Post/Tube
Seat tube measures 28mm OD, and 26.2mm ID . I assume this means I need a 26mm seat post? I think I recall seatposts needing -0.2mm than the tube ID (no interference fits...). Let me know if that is correct.
Thanks in advance for any advice, opinions, and banter.

55mm brake centres suggest frame could have been designed for use of the small reach MAFAC Racer caliper or the Weinmann 610 caliper
both have a centre of 56mm

Before sanding your stem, run an automotive brake cylinder hone down the inside of the steerer (which is probably a Nervor). That will clean up any corrosion. With the headset locknut off, see if a Nitto stem will fit - use grease but it should work without surgery. If need be, open up the upper rim on the headset locknut to fit the stem. That worked well for me on an Allegro with a metric steerer.
You might want to pull the BB and run a hone down the inside of your seat tube as well - that allowed me to run the correct seat posts on some 531 Raleighs I had.

I thought I would give these a try.... Starting to lean more towards a restoration, paint, decals, appropriate (looking at least if not truly vintage) components. Should be fun
