Bikes: several Eddy Merz (ride like Eddy, braze like Jim!)

My fav part was meeting your buddy in Cambria, the one who did the SP removal work.

I'm not sure if you two were best friends or not, or just wanted him to see and meet us freaks who knew about this story and wanted to buy him a beer or at least shake his hand.

Also, I've never seen another silver DeRosa panto'd Cinelli XR stem. Usually they are black.

When I got my black one, I took it to the anodizing shop here in Portland and asked them to dip it. It came out the vat shiny silver. After a lil' 0000 steel wool scrub, and some wax, it looks factory silver. Do you have a similar story?

Robert

Im glad we got to meet in Cambria, that was a lot of fun!

Honestly, I don't know the backstory of the bike except the seller was young, 20s, and he said it was his dad's bike but he didn't really ride, so he was selling it. That being said, stem does look original to me as far as I can tell.

I already had the wheels and tires, so I have put $600 into this bike. Not bad! And the satisfaction of rescuing and riding this amazing bike is priceless.
That’s honestly a bargain.

The ride is very high quality and similar to my 1972 Colnago IMO. It really shines on the descent, very stable and predictable steering into the turns. Very comfortable. Well-rounded. Puts a smile on my face

A great restoration, thanks for sharing!

As a note, I've put a clear coat over two recent powder coating jobs without issues. One was a high quality glossy automotive clear coat, which is definitely recommended - it made the powder coat color pop beautifully. On the second one I used a rattle can two-stage clear semi-gloss coat that I would not recommend. It definitely sits fine over the powder coating, though.
