Schwinn Stingray
Need some input from you wise Schwinn experts. Just purchased a Schwinn Stingray from a yard sale. Trying to determine the year made has proven difficult from exhaustive internet searching. I know it is not from the original release in 1963 and it is not the relative current retro models. The flat fork with chrome crown, crank set design and screwed on head tube badge are reminiscent of the early models but frame welds at head tube and drop outs are more recent. The only serial number, TCA04D01134, is on the underside of the bottom bracket and is not recognized through the Schwinn searches so I am sure it was not USA built. Any help would be appreciated.

One of the follow on reproduction, imported versions, fairly decent, got a bunch of the appearance details approximately correct.
many many differences. Not an investment but a bike to have fun with.
handlebar looks earlier and troubled plating wise.

Repop Stingrays don't get much love anywhere. They can be ridden and trashed without worry about a damaged investment.
Over at theCabe there is a bit more info, here is a start,

Thanks for the link. It was an informative read. I'd say my bike falls into the 98/99 year reproduction. Appreciate it!

Warning labels on Schwinns started in the 1970’s. Schwinn was a target for liability suits.
The stem, an alloy affair is a big tell, original were cast steel. Quite a nice piece considering.
set this one next to an original and the differences shout out. This could be worse.

by 1969, the chain guard lost the tail fin, the chainwheel was the mag sprocket similar in appearance to the repop. Seat struts were different with P clamps for infinite adjustment, the hoop was more erect, 3” reflector to a tab below seat, seat shape more similar to the repop. Factory was a slick rear tire. Westwind tread front.
I bought one new in October 1969. The coppertone color was gone for that year.

1966ish and still on training wheels when I first saw a neighborhood kid with a Stingray. It was The Coolest Thing In the World.
