Mounting Bottle brackets
I am working on a Raleigh International and it does not have bottle bracket mounts on the DT nor the ST
What do you all use to mount a bottle bracket? Or do you just carry it in another pocket, What??? |

How about these https://kingcage.com/en-ca/collectio...l-support-bolt

DMR hinged clamps. Solid and don't have shift-around tendencies like some of the other bolt-ons do.
Velo Orange sells them, but is currently out of stock. Some of the UK vendors also sell then. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...26246259de.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...918d4977df.jpg |

Problem with these is the clamp-tightening part will interfere with your cables on the downtube. Wish they'd oriented the stud and the clamp 180 degrees from each other instead of 90.....
‘some will clear. Some won’t. |
I very recently found out that there are saddlebags with bottle holders. Sort of like how time trial riders store their bottles. I believe Rock Bros makes one.

I grab some clamps from Velo Orange when I place an order as filler. They're on sale for a buck a pair right now.
https://velo-orange.com/collections/...tle-cage-clamp I've even swapped the provided bolt with color anodized ones from Wolf Tooth to give a better match to the bike. |
Gugificazione!
https://live.staticflickr.com/1726/4...054a0cc6_b.jpg Seriously, though, this is why I don't like vintage frames with good paint. I've used the Velo Orange clamps and a different version of the King Cage hose clamp. They work well enough, but I don't really like the look. I think this is the VO clamp. Seeing it in a picture I think I must be pretty OCD to complain about it. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...6f56f1cb_b.jpg |
I got about 8 of the Velo Orange clamps a while back for a buck per. I need to find cages they will work with now.
|
I am not sure the VO cages will work well with their bands. Some might.
|
VO says on their site the current cages they offer do not work with the $1 clamps.
|
I've got the benefit of buying some T.A. bottle cages many years ago, so I can't say how easily available they are now.
On an International that has since left the stable, I used a T.A. Criterium cage on the down tube. It uses a single clamp, which makes it easier to avoid clamping onto the big Raleigh decal. https://live.staticflickr.com/4053/4...ddb998_o_d.jpg On my current '74 International with the pristine paint and decals, I've avoided clamping anything to the down tube. Instead, I just use a T.A. handlebar cage, along with a bottle in a jersey pocket. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...556ab6_c_d.jpg Steve in Peoria |

”way back machine”: I spent a lot of time wondering what straps to make/buy then happen to visit Browns of Beverly on Cabot St in Beverly, MA. Saw an early 70’s Raleigh 3 spd there with plain bright steel straps. “That’s what I’ll do.” Browns is long gone now. Sad. |
I’m with Andy K on this. I’ve 1/2 a mind to use a Camelback 😧 when take my G.J. on a long ride.

File them down, use slightly shorter bolts, or add a washer like I did. |
|
I use vintage TA alloy clamps on my Peugeot. I put little strips of thin double-sided tape on the inside of the clamp and then I put little strips of butyl tube on top of that. This keeps the clamps from scratching the paint.

I hadn’t noticed the crack in the weld. I’ll replace the cage. I prefer the steel cage version anyway. Thanks!

I got a pair of these on an old Stella I bought earlier this year (yes, the one that became the Smella).
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...493794cd_b.jpg I have no idea what they are. I tried them out on my Raleigh Professional tonight. They don't hold the cage as tight as they should. They've probably work well with more of a shim. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...bc906658_b.jpg |

Have you considered handle bar mounts? I actually have much better pics but can't find them.
This is a Minoura cage mount that use two U bolts to attach to the bars and I put a double bottle attachment I got of the amazon. For some reason my '90 Bianchi Proto only came with one set. For a few years I a set of nylong Zefla band type mount but it left marks on the paint. This set up allows to carry two bottle or if I want a bottle and this GU can with my spare tube and levers https://scontent-ord5-2.xx.fbcdn.net...nw&oe=655EE7A7 https://scontent-ord5-2.xx.fbcdn.net...IQ&oe=65602413 https://scontent-ord5-2.xx.fbcdn.net...jQ&oe=655F3B32 |
