Newly built Trek 2100
I thought I'd share pics of the Trek 2100 I just finished up. I picked this thing up for all of $80 bucks thinking even if the carbon frame was questionable, it was worth that in parts. I was shocked to find it was in GREAT condition. Gotta love this market, at least when I'm buying. Anyways, the frame was near perfect, with absolutely nothing worrying around the lugs, so I decided to build it and give it a go.
I set it up with as a wide range 11-speed because I am old and fat and like the low gears. I built up the wheels myself. Fully DT Swiss. 28s fit, but nothing larger would.
Another view of the rear drivetrain
The original dual-pivot brakes are among the few parts I ended up keeping.
It really was astonishingly clean for $80. I forget where I picked up the 600 crankset, but it weighed out as the lightest in the parts bin, so on it went.
Shifters moved to the bar ends. Honestly, I don't like the splatter paint, but whattayagonnado?
One of the very few scratches in the CF ....
Ended up with Nitto stem and Noodle bars.
And Tektro brake levers. I don't dislike the 105/RSX hoods of the era but like the Tektro reach and feel a bit more.
And that's it. It's really quick, quite stiff, climbs like a monster and isn't the tooth shaker I expected it would be. I like it.
