This post was worth opening just for this! The blob treatment. (Also common on titanium bikes. Yes, they use expensive precision castings and machining, but still - just really expensive blobs.)

My bikes? 5 blobbed (2 on retired frames), 4 not-blobbed (including my soon to be retired Pro Miyata.)

Maybe I have coined a new technical bike term!

If you will recall the cranberry colored Raleigh that left here for MA was that size and even though I could ride it, it moved on. The ride was not a special one for me. Maybe just a bit heavier than I am used to, but I looked it in the head-badge and told it I was sending it away. It has been replaced by a Trek 950 from AMCO, and a Basso Loto from Shop Dog Bikes. A pretty fair trade for me. But Alas, Another N+1 deal. Smiles, MH

Yeah, against my better judgment I thought I would try it out for the gravel possibility.

Check out the “headbadge” I am left with!

As Andy said, mine is a 1974. He might be wrong, though. I have fenders and 32mm tires, and there is room for a little more, I don't know how much. I'll take a look when I get a chance.

3x10 drivetrain
dynamo front hub, headlight and taillight
battery taillight, too
commuter pedals
fenders
rack & basket
modern handlebars with stem adapter
Brooks Cambium saddle
Tektro brakes (which are great)
Continental GP5000 tires which are great but may not be durable

Can haz...PMz moi.

USAZorro 02-03-24 10:03 PM

FYI, mine takes 35mm 700c, and I could also manage mud guards.

nlerner 02-03-24 10:50 PM

If there were only a way to fit fatter tires with smaller diameter wheels and long-reach brakes.

Sorry I was being a bit silly - I live in a different continent which will render it cost prohibitive. My favourite saddle though.

Haha! 33-35 is plenty large enough for me. Probably use some Mafac or something.

I'm very happy with Tektro dual pivot calipers. They leave me wanting nothing. In fact, I think I like them better than MAFAC Racers. Notice that I mounted the rear one in front of the seat stays so the cable stop on the caliper is on the same side as the one on the frame. It looks weird but works fine.

They do have a goodly amount of clearance as side pulls go, and though slightly flexy, overall have the dual pivot goodness.

Mehhh!,.... You just get used to the looks of the stay "Blob ends", once you owned a couple of Peugeots.....

They do have a high BQ.

I stand corrected. I haven't seen that one in a while, when did you add the rear basket? I like!

Mad Honk 02-05-24 06:50 PM

BQ = Blob Quotient?? Smiles, MH

Mercifully, neither bottom bracket nor seatpost was particularly problematic...

However...

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...22874183d.jpeg
Bottom bracket needing a good cleaning and has its requisite wasp buddy (which may or may not contain dinosaur DNA). Of course, another Campy English bottom bracket to add to the five other I do NOT need.

Someone had an interesting take on lightening the seatpost. Wedge cutoff and drillium. That will be offered up to someone who does not need took much length.

jdawginsc 02-07-24 10:43 AM

Concor is not actually in that bad a shape...

Seatpost drillium is awesome. Love it.

Also, the Concor is probably my favorite saddle shape.

Paint plans? Go for raw?
