Cable clamps - advice

This may seem a bit silly but I’m looking for top tube cable clamps - NOS, prefer French or Italian - and are there any brands that I should seek or avoid? I HATE cheap hardware FWIW.

Yeah, I know, It’s just a silly clamp but aesthetics matter for this application. I saw some REG clamps on eBay that look right but if the screw or nut are kinda flimsy it would be a hard pass.

…except they have the DC logo etched into the raised area. I have no beef with DiaCompe products (they’re often excellent) but on a bike equipped with much Campy and Mafac brakes, kinda out of place.

But be aware that Simplex were probably* made for French diameter TT, which is larger than English/Italian. Not sure they'll tighten on an inch TT (don't remember)
* maybe they made them in inch size too, but all I've seen were French.

Jargon request: can we try to call these housing clamps? Cable clamps clamp cables, like at the brake or the straddle yoke.

I'm also on a crusade to stamp out the term "cable stop". There are housing stops, and there are cable guides, but there are no cable stops, that I know of.

Haha, I'll join you in your word purification quest. It's an effort made in vain, but I do it anyway. The little balls in bearings: people call them ball bearings, but I call them bearing balls. Please join me. And there is no such thing as something that is very unique. Unique means one-of-a-kind, and you can't get closer to one than one. Something is either unique, or it is not. Nothing is more unique than another thing.

But where do you stand on the term bottom bracket? The term originally referred to the lug, aka bracket, at the bottom of the frame. The cups-balls-and-axle assembly are a bearing, not a bracket.

See (and contribute to) my bicycle misnomenclature thread.

Got three sets of NOS top tube cable clamps. Campy and Shimano, as I recall. Even know exactly where they are. I have Simplex and Reg also, but not sure if they are NOS. I should take a look just to see what is in that drawer...

Bikes: More than the people who ride them...oy.

Campagnolo housing clamps never look out of place and usually shine up well.

Good call on the TT OD.

I think you’re fighting an uphill battle on the cable/housing thing but I commend your efforts Mark. I’m still irked about clipping in to clipless pedals but that is a discussion for Tom’s thread.

I would definitely be interested in the Campy pieces. PM me.

Yep. Older ones were chrome-plated, newer ones went to stainless, anyone remember when that switchover happened?

There are no-name stainless housing clamps on that auction site, they are ok but one edge has a bit of stamping flash, they need 5 minutes attention with a riffler fie..

Also got some NOS AGPA chromed steel from the same place, they are good enough:

YOU OLD FART! I agree. And I still drive across “the bridge at Tappan Zee” and always will. Forget that other name, wadeveritiz. Old farts unite!!!

OK, OK. I can live with EZPass and removal of those Tarrytown toll booths, though.

Well, I had a look and then I took a shot, or two for you. If interested, anyone in any set, I will post on the For Sale forum and try to price reasonably...

DuraAce - not NOS but nice...

Shimano NOS - 3 sets, 2 still packaged...

Hurett - not perfect but I would clean up and use...

Campagnolo Old School - all five and three in the middle are pretty nice...

Just kidding, but Zip Tie is missing an untapped market for a "chromed" version!

Indeed, the DA clamps are much nicer, in appearance, ease of installation and function (not sure about the function thing, though).
