1986 Cannondale SR400 build
This is my first build thread on Bikeforums, and it should be fun. I recently purchased three bikes from a Facebook Marketplace ad--this Cannondale, a '99 Cannondale SuperV, and a Specialized Hard Rock. I was able to replace inner tubes and do a few repairs on the Hard Rock and flip it quickly to cover my entire cost
. This was in overall great condition, just kind of dirty. I think the seller was clearing the garage of some "old bikes" that had never been used much. This era did not have model names, but looking through catalog scans led me to believe it is an '86 SR400. The Suntour Cyclone group was pretty unique and it seems like other models and later years used all Shimano.
Here's the bike as I received it. I have the seat way too high in order to fit it in the repair stand clamp.

A good wash really made the metalic flake blue pop.

Here's the dropouts with the Cannondale employee initials in them.

This sold quite close to the Cannondale headquarters, then at some point traveled to Colorado.

I've made a few updates since I got the bike. Tires were probably original and were crumbling. I swapped on some parts bin UltraSports (25c and 23c). There looks to actually be a good amount of clearance so I'd like to go bigger eventually after I get out on some rides and make sure it works well for me. If not, I'll leave them on and sell it.
I'll try out this Selle Italia saddle I was given. Seat is still way to high. Just had a knee surgery recently, so I'm delayed on really getting out on it.

Trying to catch that glitter.

Left brake lever was siting pretty crooked. I pulled back the hood and the upper part was splayed apart. I put a C-clamp on it and bent it back but then I saw the crack. Looks like new levers are in order. These ones needed new hoods anyway. I have some RX100 levers that would work, though not keep the Suntour/Dia-Compe group intact. I'm not positive but I may have the matching dual pivot brake calipers also. When I do that, I'll need to replace the old Benotto tape. I've been eying some of the Fizik Microtex in silver--we'll see.
