Is this an 82 Specialized Sequoia?

I found this old girl sitting in the bike rack rack at a thrift shop and even though it’s too small, I couldn’t pass it up.

19” seat tube 21” top tube
Sugino AT Crank
Suntour superbe brake levers, brakes and pedals
Suntour bar end shifters
Suntour cyclone M II derailleurs
i believe a Suntour winner 6 speed freewheel with 700c wheels. I can not read the hubs, but the rims look like the Super Woblers on my 85 Voyaguer SP.

it looks pretty darn original. I just wish it was a 54 or 56.

Bikes: One of everything and three of everything French

Nice find. Yours was Miki built in late '81 and quite possibly sold as an '82 model. However, your Sequoia is different than the bike in the road test linked above, which was not produced by Miki. I get the feeling these changes were pretty fluid and not cleanly tied to a particular model year. Your hubs are probably Specialized brand.

The serial number definitely suggests a 1981 build, but the decals are later and I don't think the seat tube water bottle bosses became common until 1983 or 1984. As Insidious C. says, the details may have been fluid at this early point in their history, but this one doesn't fall in line with the progression of others that I've seen. My Sequoia, which has a 1982 serial number, has the same decals as yours, but no seat tube bottle bosses.
