Bikes: several Eddy Merz (ride like Eddy, braze like Jim!)

Rolled out a dent. Thoughts on future rigidity.

Found an MB-1 frame. Then found a dent. Odd place for a dent. The paint was cracked and a lil line of rust formed.

I took it to my Framebuilder friend who said, “I can roll that out no problem.

In between two blocks of wood and heave and ho. Push and pull. Tighten the blocks and do it one more time.

Dent is completely gone. so is some paint.

but I cannot feel even a flat spot.

my question: after painting, is this good as new or worrisome?

Under the top tube. WHY?

Bikes: A few too many

Great job....gives new meaning to rolling your own
I would not have worried at all about the original dent and with the repair all you need is a little Bondo, sand paper and paint and it should be good to go.
Best, Ben

From: San Francisco - it used to be nice

Bikes: 1970 Alex Singer, 63 Hetchins, 75 Motobecane Townie, more . . .

Why would Bob K. have done the repair if the result would be marginal or unsafe ?

How many Top Tubes have you EVER seen that break (or even crack?) in the middle of the tube ? Maybe at the ends in the HAZ, but in the middle ?

Did you say Zero ? Yeah, me too . . .

Impressive that heat treated Prestige didn't crack. But since it didn't, it won't in the future.

Bikes: a few that I can't recall

So awesome. Nobody ever believes me how good it works.

(because I always forget to take pics)

I think it's just great.

Thanks all.

Next step, have bike dipped in Eugene at the last real dip place in Oregon. Paint and decal. Certainly not used to decals on top and zero clear coat.

[You went cheap on us Grant.]

Then build her up. I'll be asking for pro vs con on the components.

This just in. Apparently many people wanted Rock Shox when they first came out, even though they are heavy and maybe not needed by everyone. (why god invented knees and elbows). Those same people often said to their LBS, "yeah, you can keep the biplane fork, I'm happy with these heavy AF shocking forks." freeing them up for co-ops in the future.

To be continued.

16 years later, it's still a bike worth riding!
