Super Course frame search

As I shared already I got this very clean ‘73 Capella lug SC sometime ago, but the frame is just a bit too tall for me to feel comfortable and safe riding it.

I saw a FB listing. A guy is selling a pair from ‘73. Same color. $300 for the pair.

The taller of the two is the same size as mine….and has been made road ready. The other is the proper size for my height but it needs some TLC.

Asked how much for just that one, he said $80. Done. Picking it up this week. It looks like my rideable ‘73 may become the parts bike.

Both are pictured.

Lucky find with the color and size. Those long Huret shifters are something.

Good find. When you pick up the bike and post some pics, make sure you show the drive side with the components. That will help the hive mind in giving you ideas in how to fix up the bike.

Brought it home today. I clearly have my work cut out for me. The paint is in bad shape. Lots of corrosion here and there on clamps, etc.

Hurét derailleurs front and rear. Stronglight cotterless crank…which I kind of like

But aside from needing new shifter cables and a saddle, it is basically a functioning bike. Even the old HWA Fong nylon tires are holding air. I’d like to put a 700c wheelset on the bike. I have a clean set of Continental Grand Sports ready to use.

Correction. Cottered crank

It has been pointed out to me that this bike isn’t a ‘73 but instead is from 1972. I misidentified the lugs as being Capella. The color is identical to the other ‘73. That added to the confusion.

They are also a great way to snap shift cables. I used to break cables routinely when I had regular Huret shifters and Allvit deraillerurs.

Nice find and yes, you have your work cut out for you.

Those are keepers. The proper tools for the cottered crank and bottom bracket will make restoring it a pleasure.

Here is a one-stop-shop....

I've restored about a dozen Grand Prix's and Super Courses from that era. Yours may be functioning but if you want to get the most out of it, check out these threads.
