Differences in bottom bracket units - Campagnolo

Hello all, thought I’d share this comparison before I send it back. I have a rifled cup assembly and just purchased what I thought was the same but isn’t. This can’t possibly work, can it?

This one’s interesting. Not only are the races in different places, one wall is thinner.

Campagnolo thick and thin cups. A well discussed topic, here's just one - Campagnolo BB thin cups vs. thick cups.

The thick "rifled" cups, and corresponding spindle with narrower cone spacing, are the only things different between the older Record crankset and the Nuovo Record. The cranks themselves were still called Record. Just the BB was NR

Track (pista) and triple never came in NR, only the thin cups and wide cones on those. So hang onto those thin cups.

this is much of it, but...

there was an interval where the post CPSC changes pushed on to measure the overall spindle dimension.

the post CPSC drive side arm required a longer overall length. use a spindle from the before times, and the chainline will be off, too far toward centerline.

the early pre CPSC arms - bigger ant hill on the back of the arm, use a 112-113 mm overall spindle.

the Post CPSC arms - shallower bulge, 115mm +/-.

too bad Campagnolo did not mark stuff with more detail.

So is that why I have an unrifled triple BB that’s 123mm wide?
Pretty sure it’s early 80’s, certainly post CPSC.

I have been wondering about the differences for a long period of time. Thanks for the explanation!
What started my curiosity was the acquisition of a thin cup, only one. I then bought a couple of spindles with one of them having the wider race locations. Now no NDS thig cup.
Then I needed a spindle with the length that the wide spindle was. Got a NDS thin cup and problem solved.
Hording is so much fun when it pays off!

"Ant hill?" Is it the fillet feature of the spindle boss on the back side of the crank?

Record triple bottom brackets never had the thick, rifled cups. Those were only found on the Nuovo Record road double bottom brackets.
