What makes this bottom bracket "Universal"?

Saw this in my eBay msgs this morning:

What makes it "universal?" It's not like the threadless Mavic bottom bracket with the chamfered edges on the rings.

Bikes: Waterford Paramount Touring, Raleigh Sports 3-speeds in M23 & L23, Schwinn Cimarron oddball build, Marin Palisades Trail dropbar conversion, Nishiki Cresta GT, Jeunet mixte

Keep scrolling:

"Universal" probably means "fits any British thread BB shell, 1.37" x 24 TPI." Not really universaluniversal.

Skip,
I think it was because it has an adjustable cup on both sides allowing you to set the chainline and Q factor. Smiles, MH

Yep. Suntour and/or Sugino made a similar one. Or two, maybe. Nominally a 115 or 118 spindle but with the ability to correct chain line by moving both adjustable cups one way or the other. Cannondale used them a bunch on mid 80’s ST setups. Bought one not long ago, NOS and a 115 but not enough adjustability to fit the crank that needed a 118. Needs a pin wrench to install and adjust, tho.
