On the basis of that post I was invited to display in this thread.
I haven't seen my own bike, Breezer #2 in maybe 20 years, but it is coming home soon to Fairfax when the MTB Hall of Fame opens in its new location. After Breezer #1 , which is now in the Smithsonian collection (along with my race jersey and Repack poster art), Breezer #2 is the second most collectible bike in the world.
Here it is when I took delivery in 1977.

I posted a previous image of this bike as it was when I bought it. Pretty rough looking. Now it's shaping up to it's final, riding form and looking much better.
1980's Takara Highlander mostly likely built by Kuwuhara in Japan. The style is that of an 82-84 Stumpjumper but if the serial number contains the year of manufacture, it could be a 1987 model. I would love to find out but information on Takara bikes is scarce.
I'm not a collector and I bought this to ride so it's been updated with the wheels, brakes and derailleurs (not installed in this photo) from 1990's Treks, a new seatpost, new BMX pedals and 55mm Schwalbe Big Apples.

Nice looking Takara. Pretty sure it pre-dates 1987. I'm not sure if I got my Takara MTB in 87 or 88 but it had this type of decal design:

very nice.. love the lack of front shifting messiness but still there's a granny just in case (or the previous owner didn't know how to remove the crank to remove the inner ring )

Do I spy some WTB cantilevers in the front there? I have a few pairs of those and they are without a doubt some of the coolest cantis ever!

I don't know if I'd swap anything. There's a certain charm about it as is. I'll bet it still rides great even all beat up.
I scoured ebay for one of those eazy e stickers - not one to be found.

Picked this up yesterday (had to drive 2 hours to another area's CL to get it,hahaha, but worth the drive ). Anyone know what year it is? I'm thinking '95 from a quicky google search for pics of various years. I haven't even cleaned it up yet,but it rides nicely around the 'hood Specialized Hard Rock...
