I had a couple of DB tubing(true temper I think) Diamondbacks with the same splatter type paint job.I think they were early 90's.The splatter paint was popular back then.
I always like the GT with that "double triangle" frame.Good bikes.
Charlie
PS What is that white stuff??

bigwoo,
I was just kidding you about the snow.It is 80 degrees here today(and the last 3 days).
The splatter-Jasper Johns-monkey with a paint brush paint jobs were popular in the late 80's-early mid 90's.My two Diamondback had the same sort of paint.Buyers would look pretty closely, implying I had added the paint. It sure caught folks attention!
I always like the GTs-sold a couple in the last year.
Luck,
Charlie

if you consider 1992 to be vintage, then here's mine, a Stumpjumper Comp. now works as my winter beater, and I've ridden it more in the past year than I had in probably the previous ten.

I don't think this has been posted. Lots of good vintage mountain bike photos.

Here's a 94 Scott Cheyenne I picked up for $50 from CL, in perfect shape! I love this bike.

Check it out. One of my local drive by pawn shops had been leaving the bikes inside. I stopped by today to see what was around. I walk in and the normal Magna/Huffy lineup greeted me. Then I saw a bit of grey brown peeking out of the row. I see a Schwinn badge, and canti brakes sticking WAY out to the sides ala Dia Compe brakes. Turned out to be a smoked chrome Impact. Unknown year, since the badge is not stamped? 4130 main tubes and stays, forged drops, Suntour Accushift X3040, Sugino MP triple cranks, laser straight Weinmann concave rims, WTB Velociraptor tires in perfect shape. I will have to lose the ridiculously tall stem and riser bars, so it can fit me better. Frame is just about my perfect size. The best part? I just happened to walk in on sale day, and got it for $43 with tax!,,,,BD

The smoked chrome looks to be in very good condition.
I like that frame geometry and it's a rigid/rigid to boot!!

I am a road bike person, but I tell you.... I've fallen in love with the Scott posted a few posts down. Rigid mountain bikes are nice, and I'm amazed at how sweetly it rides. I love it like I love my subaru. I love it like I love my hiking boots. I love it like I love my silk long johns.
Why are people buying cheap modern mountain bikes when there are these great rigid bikes around? It's not like most of them are going off road... they often buy them as a hybrid bike.

^^^ Your Scott is gorgeous! The blue paint is very handsome. And for only $50!!!!!
I can understand falling in love with it. Old MTBs were made with serious consideration to geometry and performance. Unlike today's cookie cutter/add a junk suspender fork, X-Mart junk.
I just picked up a 95 Diamondback Ascent EX frame (listed in Catch of the Day) that's also rigid/hardtail. I'm looking forward to the lighter weight and snappier handling of a rigid fork.
Once I locate a 26.6mm seatpost and a threadless headset (odd size and to my surprise it's not threaded), I can begin assembly.

Gave my 1984 Diamond Back Mean Streak to a nephew. The first real bike I ever owned. I couldn't believe I paid $250 for it in 1985. I thought it would last me a lifetime. Unfortunately over the years I broke and replaced every component on it so nothing was original outside the frame. Gave my other nephew my 1991 American Comp lite for 10 free car washes (I only collected on about five before he grew up and moved away, I still give him a hard time when I see him on the holidays that my car needs to be washed). Kept the 1987 Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo for my cruiser. Sitting in the garage with full fenders and a rear rack. All these bikes were worth more to me than I could ever sell them for. I think giving them to a young family member was the best thing to do.

Rescued another GT. Just brought it home and have no idea what year or anything yet. This one is steel ( a Timberline ). Any help with identifying would be appreciated. I *think* it's a '92.

you probably just witnessed a ripped off sale - a copy of the original, made to suck money out of your wallet. eBay just took it down.

Here's what happened to the first auction...
Q: What's the story on the last auction for this bike? I was the leading bidder until - BAM! - the end when it was wrest from my grip. What happened?
A:Sorry about that- not my fault! Apparently someone highjacked the winner's PP account. Hopefully the nerds in the nerdery can figure out some better code.
