Thrift store finally comes through after a long drought. 90-91 DB Apex, full Deore DX. Shifting a little sticky, otherwise great $35.

I had posted this in another thread when I got it (for free) but here it is cleaned up and ready for the snow to go away....

1988 Miele Aries 500.....

Pretty sure everything is original (except the seat and tires)....all Exage Trail, Ishiwata CroMo frame, etc. Interesting rear brake setup (under the chain stays - can't be good for really muddy conditions)

1988 Stumpjumper

Bought this new in 1989.
It had been on display in the showroom for 1 year, priced at $700.
It kind of caught my eye, as my wife and I meandered around the store.
She said: "Offer $500 and see what they say."
"We can have it ready in 15 minutes, can you wait?"

It has about 1000 miles on it, the original tires still (pic 11)(tubes replaced).
They are irreplaceable, the tires that is.

I just cleaned it, polished it with car polish, car wax, and Mothers Aluminum polish. Took some photos, first time ever polished & waxed.
Came out nice, touch up paint doesn't show up in pics, but it's there.

It is a nice riding bike, complete with sharks tooth (in pic 3) & biopace crank.
SIS System Indexed Shifting, either on or off, via a lever on the shifter (pic 12).
Stem brake cable routing (pic 12).

that is one beautiful bike! I notice it too has the under chain stay brake. We also share the same handlebar/stem set up, but your has everything upscaled from mine....(ie. Deore vs Exage etc).

No, I think his is a Litespeed. Frame decals were long gone when purchased so I replaced them, then did a google search for "titanium huffy" and saw KAS's bike, actually that's how I found bikeforums.
Not sure why I chose Huffy, could've gone Next or Magna but ebay didn't have those at the time. Almost a theft prevention device, most people don't give it a second look.

Here is my ,"ugly cousin" 1987 Cimarron. It was pretty rough when I got, so I repainted it with a brush and some green Rustoleum I had. Handlebars a newer version of the classic Bullmoose bar and they were powdercoated gray before I got them.

well cared for? Looks like it just came out of the box! I couldn't own that bike as I'd not be able to ride it.

Nothing ugly about that. Always amazed by the results some people get with brush on paint. I might have to try that this summer on my Rocky Mountain Blizzard which I may do a very similar build on, but I don't have the cool bars you do.

I'm with the others who have stated that there's nothing ugly about your bike. It looks fantastic- truth be told, my favorite Cimarrons are those that have been altered to suite the current riders needs; my 87 resembles nothing like it did when it was new, and it's a magical bike, one of my all time favorites. Really nice job. Did you keep the original parts?

Got some purple ano rims the other day Also swapped on a white saddle.. it's a real 'ass hatchet' so I might swap it back out, but it looks good for the pics!

Man, that is one minty fresh Cimarron! Okay bconneraz, granted you are the Cimarron King but that beauty is on a whole other level... what a gem!

Someone questioned me on a different bike forum whether or not the fillet brazing was legit or simply filled in with bondo... it's metal.

Fender1, I love that fillet brazed Bullmoose handlebar, it matches the frame beautifully! It's nice to see one that's not chrome... tasty!

That is an awesome bike!

Do you realize the Bullmoose handlebar you have there is made by Nitto and sold by Rivendell Bicycle Works and retails for $160?

Originally, when I purchased the frame only, my plan was to build it up as a single speed. I wanted as clean a look as possible, so before having it repainted I got rid of any cable stops I wouldn't need. It was a fun SS, but I decided I wanted to be able to go fast plus climb steep stuff. I have no regrets. It is a pretty light bike, at about 25 lbs. Has a super light wheelset....White Industries hubs and Sun rims.

Bought new in 1986, Specialized Rockhoppers. Just got mine back from the brother-in-law that borrowed it for the past decade! My wifes bike is behind mine. Has a special 24" size frame. Still in great condition. It's great to be back on these vintage beauties.
