My new favorite ride. 1986 Schwinn Cimarron. Fillet brazed up front & lugged in the back. High end components from the day. Big 23 inch frame for my 6'5" self. Smooth as silk.

As I stated before I am putting together an 85 Cimarron, so I love to see pics of these for reference. I am going with more modern componentry but redoing the paint scheme as close to origional as possible with the metallic forest green. Unworthy2 has been graciously working on the graphics and we finally have something I can take to the printshop. I love the long wheelbase of these. My LBS dude has one in the same color (red) that he has tours extensively with set up with drop bars 9 speed rear and brifters. A quick wheel swap and you can go from single track to touring/LD road bike.

I love that Cimarron also, fantastic bike! I'm going to find one in my size someday...
I'm curious about the braze-ons on the Cimarron, it looks like mparker326's bike has lowrider mounts on the fork, but I don't think they're present on the 87 model. fas2c, does you fork have them?

1991 Miyata Elevation 2000 in Fatal Black
Usually running Tom Slicks, but was riding a Rails-to-Trails MUP, Bizz Johnson in Susanville, Ca. So I put some Ritchey Zmax Evolution's on and hit the trail. The bike is nice, 26 lbs or so, it is usually my commuter. I sized it like a road bike, and it is almost the same dimensions as my road bike.

I enjoyed a lot of great miles with this frame. Hopefully build it up again somewhere in future.

'83-ish Terranaut Wanderer. Made in Japan, Ishiwata MagnyV double-butted cromoly frame, nutted cartridge bearing wheels, friction Suntour Mountech drivetrain. All original but tires, brake pads, saddle & grips. I added the racks & fenders as a touring bike conversion. It's a high quality machine, I would love the opportunity to give it a real tour...just for testing, of course. 16-1/2" frame.

My understanding is that this brand was sold only through Touring Cyclist of St. Louis metro area (the original store is still open in Bridgeton MO). It has been suggested that they were manufactured by Fuji, but I have no way to confirm that. But aesthetically the frame is well made, and the confirmation of frame material lets us know there is some quality involved. I have emailed the store owner several questions about Terranaut with the hopes of posting a Wikipedia article, but he has only responded that he would respond.

In regards to the low rider mounts on that Cimarron,
Schwinn didn't have those consistently through the mid-late '80s. I've got 2 '87 Schwinn high sierras, both with them, but I've seen a year before and a year after model without them. Also my High Sierras are welded differently. and with different rear rack braze ons.
BTW, That Cimarron is cool as all get out!

Working on a 1991 Litespeed mtb , Its near impossible to find original Litespeed Ti fork, so its rocking a classic Rock Shox Judy and I can never find a Litespeed mtb stem or 28.6 seatpost. So for now I have a matching Suntour XC seatpost stem combo. The bike in the 91 catalog was built with a campy mtb group but I went with a Shimano XTR m900 groupset . The wheels are first gen Hope titanium suspension wheels with ti glide rear, mavic rims.

Just bought this 1987 Diamondback Topanga last week. Came with a few accessories, some of which I changed and some of which I kept, but it is being used as a commuter (I like the gearing because I have hills to climb). It had been pretty much garage kept since new and hardly ever ridden. It has old street tires on it where the sidewalls are starting to crack, so I might get some of those universal smooth center tread, knobby outer tread tires.
Here it is in bare form:
And here it is serving commuting duty with an old rack and some fenders off an old Schwinn:
I changed the bouncy saddle and the raised bars for something more to my liking. I'll eventually pick up some more modern fenders and rack, but this works for now.
I'm a bigger guy and nothing seems to have quite the strength and gearing for my hilly commute as these older mountain bikes.

I missed out on a Cimarron a few years ago. It popped up on CL and I was low on funds at the moment. I think I had just bought the Tesch S-22 or something? Anyways, it was gone in a day or so, sigh....
Both of my Sierra's have lowrider mounts, an 84 Sierra, and what I think is an 88 High Sierra. Weirdest High Sierra I've seen yet though. Supposedly an 88, but no pump peg on the back of the seat tube, and a tigged not brazed head tube. Unlike my yellow 88 from a year or two ago?? I am starting to wonder if that pump peg was a custom order item, since it is the only on I've ever seen like it? Lugged unicrown fork, whew!
Which leads me to my latest find. No pics yet, but it did happen. It's a two tone paint High Sierra, which doesn't show up in any of the catalog specs I've seen? Has graphics like an 88, but I've not seen a two tone model before. My buddy I got it from swears he has a 1988 BMX Action magazine with this very bike on a back cover ad. It's a beige/cream pearl(think 600EX 85 Super Sport) with the back triangle the solid brown of a Hershey bar wrapper.
Either way I love this thing, and it's already starting to come together nicely. SUPER wide early 80's Schwinn crmo bullmoose bars, Brooks B.17, Roller cam brakes. The drivetrain is coming from a 93 Trek 8000. Matrix singletrack pro wheels, LX FD, XT RD, black LX cranks with silver rings. The black LX canti's will be saved or a future project.,,,,BD

I don't know why, but I am getting a very strong Univega meets Miyata vibe from this bike. Maybe even Bridgestone? Anyone else?,,,,BD
